About this listen

All he wanted was to safeguard his secret.

Having spent years living in the shadow of his brother’s scandalous reputation, Anthony Dempsey fought hard to regain the credibility of his family name. His unwavering sense of duty is renowned and admired. But then tragedy strikes. Threatened with ruination, he withdraws from society to hide his secret and protect all those close to him.

How ironic that he should finally meet a woman who captures more than his interest. Indeed, Sarah Roxbury is a dazzling beauty who ignites the flame of passion in his heart, awakens a craving deep in his core.

But how can he think of love? How can he commit to anyone when the truth is sure to bring nothing but devastation and despair?

All she wanted was his surrender.

Despite much praise for her beauty and alluring countenance, there was only one gentleman who'd captured Sarah Roxbury's heart. But Anthony Dempsey was an enigma. He was charming, intelligent, interested in more than her beguiling smile. Then as quick as the wind could blow out a candle, he appeared cold and indifferent.

What was he hiding? Why did he prove to be a constant disappointment? Desperate to uncover the reason behind his mysterious behaviour, Sarah discovers there is more at risk than a broken heart.

Romance and mystery

This was another entertaining story by Adele Clee. Lord Anthony Harwood is attracted to Sara Roxbury but feels unable to act upon his feelings until he has solved a problem that could cause a scandal. Sara is unable to understand why Anthony seems to fluctuate in his regard for her. She is attracted to him as well. Anthony is pressured into revealing his problem by his brother and sister in law, Lucas and Hannah. All four act together to solve the problem with some surprising results. There are also two private investigators who appear to have an interesting back story. If you like romance and mystery then you will enjoy this book. The narrator uses different voices to bring the scenes to life and has an easy voice to listen to.

Another great book by Adele Clee

Another great book by Adele Clee. I do love historical romance; especially those with a mystery to solve. Ms. Clee always delivers well thought-out mysteries with characters one has to fall in love with. This particular story is well paced and there is not a dull moment. It's a mystery with a surprising turn of events. And, of course, a happy ending. I highly recommend this book to all lovers of romance books.

Intriguing romantic mystery.

I loved listening to this story! Liisa Ivary kept me in the story. Secrets, pride, and fear of scandal put a lot between Sarah and Anthony. I enjoyed Sarah's tenacity in her feelings for Anthony despite how much he put her off. The mystery behind the romance was also exciting, watching the twists and turns. Having the women follow their own leads and still ending up where the men did was chuckle worthy. There were some tense moments, some funny moments, and some moments of tears. I recommend this story.

I received a copy of the audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

This is a book that proves that the wrong narrator can kill it

Wow! So disappointed. Had just finished To Save A Sinner and I loved it. Read the review of this and it seems to be a sequel. But, I’m gonna have to pass on it. Can’t get through 1st chapter. Narrator is all wrong. Wish they had stayed with Stevie Zimmerman. Now I have to try and find other Adele Clee books without this narrator. Wish me luck.

It was a bit slow moving...

I honestly found myself zoning out throughout most of the book and I think it’s because I didn’t really feel like I knew or had a connection to the characters. The book starts off with the main male character and he is in a bad situation that’s making him act aloof and then the story goes from there but you don’t get any real background information on him or the leading female character so I found it hard to connect.

This book does pick up towards the middle/ end when the two detectives are brought into the plot, but I found myself more interested in their story than the main characters. I’m hoping they have their own book because that would be something worth reading.

It wasn’t the worst book to listen to but I didn’t find it as exciting as I had hoped to from previous reviews. It had a lot that could have been left out and I hate to say it but It had a lot of sappy over the top romantic parts for my taste. If you like over the top proclamations of love and a slow moving mystery that picks up towards the end then it would be a good fit.

Exciting story

A delightful mix of love, seduction and passion, a murder-mystery, secrets and even blackmail - this is what this story is about. And what a story it is!
It kept me on my toes, guessing and trying to figure out what was going to happen next and then when I couldn't guess correctly, it had me turning pages to find out what would happen next in this exciting book.
I loved the characters, all of whom you quickly get to know. I loved their strengths and weaknesses which made them quite human and I loved the interaction between each one of them.
Another well written story by Adele Clee whom I respect and admire for her writing talent.
Liisa Ivary is the narrator and she does a fine job of helping to bring this story to life.
If you are looking for enjoyable entertainment then you should do yourself a favor and either read or 'listen' to this story. I am very happy to recommend it!
I listened to an advance copy of the audiobook version and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.

Another Great One!

Finally freed from the scandal caused by his brother, Lord Anthony Dempsey thinks his family may finally be able to move on. When he meets Sarah Roxbury, he thinks he's finally found the perfect woman for him. But tragedy strikes, and Anthony can't act on his feelings without causing a scandal. Sarah is attracted to Anthony, but his confusing manners mystify her. When Anthony reveals the problem to his brother, sister in law, and Sarah, they band together to solve the mystery.

This is the sequel to To Save a Sinner, but you don't need to read it first, this book can be read as a standalone. I really liked the first one, and recommend reading it too. This author writes such great mysteries! I loved the twists and turns in the plot, it kept me guessing. Her romances also feature strong heroines, and Anthony and Sarah are both characters you'll cheer for. Sarah is so loyal and sweet, and Anthony can't hide his emotions from her. I really liked them together.

The narration is well done, with perfect voices for both characters. The narrator has a really easy voice to listen to and pulled me right into the story. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
