About this listen

Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. In this second volume, Fawn Bluefield, the clever farm girl, and Dag Redwing Hickory, the seasoned Lakewalker soldier-sorcerer, are newly married. Their arrival at Dag's home on Hickory Lake Camp is met with prejudice and suspicion, as many in the camp deny the literal bond between Dag and Fawn, woven in blood in the Lakewalker magical way.

Then Dag is called away by an unexpected and vicious malice attack on a neighboring hinterland, threatening Lakewalkers and farmers both. What his patrol discovers there will not only change Dag and his new bride but will call into question the uneasy relationship between their peoples—and may even offer hope of a less divided future.

A great follow on from the original story and expands the world and characters. Another great fantasy story. Looking forward to part 3. Great narrator. Recommend

Great fantasy

If you’re looking for nonstop action, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a book with great characters that really pulls you into a compelling story this is excellent. As always, this author tells interesting tales that are totally unique. This is more of a romance set in an unusual but believable fantasy setting, than a swords and sorcery tale.

Outstanding character development

This isn't my normal fare, but an excellent story performed well. Not action packed with things blowing up all the time or one more thing going wrong at the worst possible moment, but I found book 1 and book 2 to be excellent. These stories are all about the characters and the story, not the action. I'm hoping to catch book 3 on a sale, but if I can't find it on a sale, I'll eventually buy it as I'm completely vested in the story and the characters.

I thought book 1 may have been a fluke

Loved this one too! Characters interesting, entertaining, and we feel as though we are in the story as well! I am laughing with some of the characters with their situations, tearing, and am at the edge of my seat when they meet the boggles!
Bujold is an excellent writer!!! I love these volumes as much as I did with her Vor characters.

Loved Volume 1 and this one too!!!

It reminds me of another series by Jean Abel. The story line is different but two people with different backgrounds learns how to survive.

Good listen

75% of the story were continuous arguments about what the main characters should be doing with their lives. It was like stuck being in a nightmare I have one dysfunctional family after another. I think a little more focus could’ve been an adventure instead of petty arguments and vindictiveness.

Inescapable dysfunctional families

I'm so impressed by Ms. Bujold's writing. She's witty and clever and only needs a couple of words to create a beautiful sunset. And her plots and characters are so real. I know this is fantasy, but without the fancy writing.

Wonderful writer
