About this listen

The popularity of Agatha Christie’s debut novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and the public enthusiasm for its hero, dapper Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, prompted the editor of London-based society magazine The Sketch: A Journal of Art and Actuality, to offer the author a contract for a series of 12 short stories. When they finished, they had proved so popular that Ingram asked for a second round - another 12.

Then, the following year, Christie wrote a third set of 12 Hercule Poirot stories for The Sketch - this time arranged as a serial novel, The Man Who Was Number Four, which she later rewrote into her seventh novel, The Big Four. It is these early Poirot short stories, written and published in 1923 and 1924, that are collected in this book. There are a total of 36 of them.

By the end of this third series, Christie had Poirot retired and Hastings married off, and clearly intended for that to be the end of it; but, fortunately for us, she brought him out of retirement in 1926 with The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and he went on to become one of fiction’s most beloved characters.

why would you not use a British accent for Hastings...this ruined it for me. You did Poirot and others...why??? omg inspector Japp sounds like a cartoon character. 8 cannot finish this. I will try to get my money back.

As a lover of Agatha Christie since childhood..
I was very disappointed in this presentation...tbe actor/ narrator waa really not suited for this, a lot of squeaky, weird noises that were supposed to be different accents(?)-- not performed well at all. Big disappointment.

This was not good narration

The Narration was so awful that I could not complete the first story, let alone the rest of the stories. What a waste of a credit.

Awful Narration

I never leave reviews, because I don't enjoy being negative. However, this is just honesty. There were some accents that the narrator performs, that are tolerable. Alternatively, the poor character performances just ruined the story for me. I was so looking forward to the stories, as I LOVE Agatha. I am disappointed to have wasted a credit on this bundle.
To summarize, the story is read at too fast a pace. Some character voices sound like Bullwinkle. Should you enjoy this speed, and fluctuate accent... proceed in your purchase. If not, save your money. I wish that I did.

The narrator made it impossible to listen to...
