It's not easy being the youngest of seven sons in a family of notorious sorcerers, especially for Ayden Dracre. In a world where sorcerers only practice dark magic and wizards only practice light magic, Ayden has a problem; he is very bad at being bad. Try as he might, all of his spells to cause mayhem go awry. When he finds out that his family has had enough of his mistakes, he decides to take destiny into his own hands.
He has one chance to prove to his family that he is worthy of the sorcerer name or he will find himself on the unfortunate end of his mother's wrath; he must defeat the greatest wizard of all the lands. There are only two problems: he doesn't know how to fight with magic, and he doesn't want to hurt anyone. If he's going to survive this quest, he will have to rely on the most unlikely allies.

I was looking for something light and fun when I start this book, and that is exactly what I got. There isn't a huge amount of dramatic angst in this story, just a fun yarn about a boy becoming a wizard. J. Scott Bennett did an good job of acting out the different voices of the characters, and his portrayal of the main character's voice did an excellent job of getting my attention and keeping me interested.
This was a fun light story to listen to!

What did you love best about The Sorcerer's Quest?
Well, the story! It was fascinating and I, quite literally, could not stop listening. I had intended to listen to about 15 minutes a night but that DEFINITELY didn't happen, it was much much longer than that! The story had me hooked within the first few minutes and some very good twists and turns to keep me interested the whole way through. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to DEFINITELY, but I did have to sleep, ha! ;) But i ended up cancelling some plans and listening to it over two days.Any additional comments?
Narration was excellent - for me, the make-or-break point with audiobooks is the narration. Some narrators can be either too dull or, worse still, too enthusiastic which really starts to get on your nerves after a while. I found the narrator J. Scott Bennet to be excellent and great at describing scenes.Really hoping for a sequel to this series, does anyone know if there will be??
5/5 for this book.
Loved this book!

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. The story doesn't end in a Cliffhanger. Although, someone might come after him in the future. He has taken care of the immediate problem.
I really enjoyed Merlin. He is a great character. The author did a great job creating some interesting characters for this book. It is a action filled adventure.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I already have. It was a very good listen and as I suspected from the blurb, the content far outshone the dreadful cover. This is definitely the case of don't judge a book by its cover, because Rain Oxford writes a delightfully witty and entertaining read full of rich detail and zany adventure that can be campy but is wonderfully fabulous. What did you like best about this story?
Ayden Dracre is wholly inept at being bad and yet is so earnest to succeed in it. I loved hearing about all his failed attempts to do the wrong thing and how they turned out for good.Any additional comments?
J. Scott Bennett is a terrific narrator and brought the book to a whole other level. His voices and cadence really made the book and characters come to life. Excellent pairing for book and narrator. An Inept Sorcerer Makes Good

But boy, am I glad I was given this book because the blurb didn't really catch my attention and I would have passed it by. I really enjoyed it and listened to it in just 2 days.
It's funny without being silly. A boy is born into a family of evil sorcerers, but every time he tries to cast a harmful spell, he ends up casting something helpful. He can't conjure meat because that would mean harming an animal, so when he tries, he gets apples and broccoli. He tries to turn flowers into swords and instead, the swords turn into flowers. He wants SO BAD to be evil so he will fit in and be accepted by his family. There's a predictable lesson about accepting who you are no matter what others want you to be, but it's not too heavy handed.
It's the first book in a series, but I appreciated that the story arc was complete and didn't end on a cliffhanger as so many series do.
This is an all-ages book. I thoroughly enjoyed at age 51, and I would be perfectly comfortable for my pre-teen niece and nephew to read it.
Most fun book I've read in a while
