About this listen

A physics student’s talents are put to the test when he’s transported to a world of magic and alchemical mysteries in the first book of a new fantasy series.

Fact one: Edwin Maxlin has fallen out of the sky and landed in a strange forest. Fact two: messages keep appearing in his line of vision, informing him that he has leveled up in various Skills—including some truly thrilling abilities such as Walking and Breathing. Fact three: this is most definitely not Earth.

Now Edwin, one-time student of material physics, must make his way through an unknown world, collecting Skills, upgrading his Class, embarking on life Paths, and most importantly, staying alive. But surviving in the land of Joriah isn’t as simple as increasing mana and learning how to become a Firestarter.

Edwin soon finds himself going toe-to-toe with an angry clan of dwarves and their even more disgruntled ruler, Lord S’fashkchlil. It will take all of Edwin’s wit, ingenuity, mathematical know-how, and charm to form new alliances, navigate a complicated political landscape, and keep from getting enslaved by Clan Blackstone. Fortunately, his otherworldly expertise is even more valuable than Edwin realizes…

Filled with humor, adventure, and unforgettable characters, The Way Ahead is a must-listen for fans of epic fantasy, role-playing games, and the scientific method.

Interesting story

Overall, plots, narration, and character development are good. Pacing is the only thing I think of that can be fine tuned a bit.

Enjoyable, Continued the story via it's Serial.

For those who wants a non fighting mc.

I was hoping there would be some awesome mage fighting with lots of elements and such. But alas, it is nothing like that.

If You like alchemical mc with bombs and such this is the book for you.
The MC is also very dense I'm afraid.

Narrator is 10/10 as always, nothing wrong with him❤️

Crutchiness bouncing act Failure

This has a great story the only problem is there's always that problem of Is finding that balance the crunchiness of all the stats with the story unfortunately that was a problem here a great story but he used the sets ways too much he had an amazing way of putting them into the story but he needed to find the pacing It's a matter of he has a great way of doing your story but a status Is that He He can't go 20 minutes without checking his stats It Draws you out of the story at times and is very frustrating when things are getting goodIt's always a problem for authors either it's not enough or there's too many finding that bounce is something that this author will have to do because this is a 5 star story if only he can find his balance and soon

Let's do scien..OH! Shiny!

Science enthusiast gets sent to a world of magic and gets lost in his own head to his constant detriment. Nothing wrong with the story even if I want to yell at the mc to focus every two seconds. This comes from someone who has hyperactive attention deficit disorder. It's not unbelievable just frustrating at times. It is also Stat heavy, but the mc is trying to figure out the Science behind the system so there is a reason for going over them.. to an extent. Interesting enough. Not ground breaking but not bad either.

fresh new take on a noncombat oriented mc

really liked the believability of the mc how he was constantly asking questions, tired of seeing the mc get transported to a brand new world and instantly adapting to it without question. this mc has questions like any real person should. narration was spot on and story was refreshing with unique and novel enemies and situations. hope there is more to come from this author

The MC has severe A.D.D.

The book is 90% just internal monolog. It is honestly impressive how the story still progresses as much as it does while the internal monolog remains at the forefront.

it's a good LitRPG, but his internal monologing is quite rambling and extensive

What a disappointment.

First, I must say the story was well written and nicely laid out. This is why I gave it to stars instead of just one. The story is about a somewhat absent minded professor type character tossed into a fantasy world of LitRPG. This book started out great but started spiraling downhill. It seems that the whole book and storyline is set up to show the superiority of the scientific method. The main character is below average at best and manages to fumble through his encounters through a series of luck and deception. I started off liking the main character but as time went on he became more dislikable to the point that I could barely finish the story. It looks like the overall point of the story is to show the superiority of the scientific method even in a fantasy world. To emphasize this point the main character must be far weaker than the other characters around him. Power through methodology!

Good book with very disappointing ending

I enjoyed the vast majority of the book the book but if you do not like heaven it's not like heavy lit RPG mechanics this book is also not for you the ending was pathetic and quite honestly ruined the entire book for me

Abrasive and passive MC.

my boy obviously went his entire life without throwing hands and it shows. disgusting.

honestly, I can understand and respect pacifism.... but this guy's weakness actually disgusted me. For someone that went the scholars route, he's doing a pass poor job of showing it. also his lack of commen sense is appalling. (This coming from a autistic recluse. he's clueless and it's frustrating)

MC is an idiot scientist who is also dumb

Title says all you need to know. Got thru over 2/3 of the book before I put it down out of frustration. MC is a scientist in a magical world and the first opportunity he gets to study magic he decides he rather be a chemist. If you can get past that then this book is for you.
