About this listen

The spinster: As a maiden aunt, Gillian Redfern lives as an unpaid servant to her demanding family. Little wonder she finds the attentions of a rake distracting, and even less wonder that her usual good sense begins to unravel when Lord Marlow takes her in his arms.

The rake: Ronan Patrick Blakely, Lord Marlow, is a man of great charm and little moral character, a gambler, a womanizer, and handsome as sin to boot. He has no qualms about placing a wager on the virtue of one small, shy spinster.

But Lord Marlow is about to discover that Miss Redfern is more siren than spinster. She amuses him, arouses him, and, much to his dismay, makes him a better man. Gillian will discover, in turn, that Lord Marlow possesses the power to turn her into a very wicked woman. The rake and the spinster are poised to find a love that neither could have imagined.

If only someone weren't out to destroy them both....

Rake Overload

A 30 year old spinster meets her match. The h was used by her family and our Rake had to save her. Very good plot only one sizzling sex scene but well worth the wait. Some did not like the narrator she was not so proper English but she relayed emotion, depth and distinct character voices. My cup of tea I like clear distinct narration, and she delivers. Of course, AS books are always top line and well developed.

Rollicking good historical

This is a wonderful, complex story with unexpected twists and turns that kept me glued to it. The heroine is *gasp* older and celebrates her thirtieth birthday during the story. There's a delightful romantic subplot as well. This one kept me guessing, which was a pleasant surprise.

This would be a five star except for the narrator. She gives the various voices in what I can only describe as a staccato monotone that didn't allow me to lose myself in the story. So glad I persisted.
