Publisher's summary

With the pressure on after his success in Gaol, Eli Monpress, professional thief and degenerate, decides it’s time to lie low for a bit. Taking up residence in a tiny seaside village, Eli and his companions seize the chance for some fun and relaxation.

Nico, however, is finding it a bit hard. Plagued by a demon’s voice in her head and feeling powerless, she only sees herself as a burden. Everyone’s holiday comes to an untimely close, though, when Pele arrives to beg Eli’s help for finding her missing father.

But there are larger plans afoot than even Eli can see, and the real danger, and the solution, may lie with one of his own and her forgotten past.

If only Nico could remember whose side she’s on.

Critic reviews

“A delightfully giddy romp of a novel.” (Karen Miller, author of The Innocent Mage)
“Witty, smart, snappy, sassy, fast, furious and let’s not forget fun...Rachel Aaron isn’t so much knocking at the door as kicking it down.” (Tom Holt, author of Blonde Bombshell)

I wish the next one was offered as an audiobook

The fourth in the series is out but not being offered in audiobook form. I love the characters in this series. Eli sort of takes a backseat in this installment. This book is primarily about Nico and her struggle with the demon seed and herself. You do learn a bit more about Eli's past. This is a great series and I hope that Audible will soon have the 4th and the upcoming 5th book to offer members in the near future.

The Rachel Aaron/Luke Daniels combo does it again!

I will listen to anything Rachel Aaron writes and Luke Daniels reads. Aaron's writing keeps the plot moving quickly, but she never hesitates to make sure her words describe the scenes perfectly. Luke Daniels could read the phone book and I'd still be enraptured. The combination of the two of then makes for a delightful and almost indulgent listen. Bravo and brava!

Still amazing!

What did you like about this audiobook?

The narrator for this series is fantastic. Simply brilliant. He totally sucks you in with his performance.

Do you have any additional comments?

Now if only books 4 and 5 were available through Audible I would be so happy!

Best one so far!

As much as the first book in the series was a slog to get through, this one was AWESOME!

We had bandits and the thrones getting involved. We found out who Eli's parents are - HAH! One could see why he went on his own path.

A new 'regular' character arrives in this installment -Sparrow, a wizard who can blend in and be almost invisible or noticeable depending on what he wears. The voice Daniels gives him was perfect! After all, he is a bit of a sniveling weasel.

This book includes our indomitable Eli getting captured and pushed down constantly - I think he spent at least a third of the book trapped in Miranda's water spirit. Then he spent time being trapped by Sparrow. But he's Eli Moonpress. Can anyone or anything truly hold him for long?

Miranda finally sees outside of the rules she's built around herself and at the end of the book goes after something new. She's finally growing as a character perhaps?

We see Nico, the Demon Seed, fighting for her existence against the demon inside, Jospeh, the swordsman, getting pummeled by a human with a demon seed inside him. Our heroes really got smooshed in this book. It was kind of awesome. Because, like heroes, they came through. Perhaps with a few more scars than they started with but hey - price of being heroes in this series.

Finally the ending was so unbelievably perfect. I never in a million years would have imagined what Eli asked of Alrich. I'm still grinning at the wonderful simplicity of the request. Plus, the White Lady has been threatened by another who has equal power as her. A warning to stop playing games with the world due to her ignoring the world going to smithereens because she wants Eli to bend to her will. (There's a god you definitely don't want picking you as a favorite. She makes me think of the whims Greek gods would do.)

I'm now about to start the next book and am anxiously awaiting what's next...

Fun series - my new favorite reader!

Ok, I can not tell you how much I love Luke Daniel's performances. I think he has taken over the slot of my favorite reader! If you have not listened to the Iron Druid Chronicles start now. That is a fantastically fun series!

Audible - where is the rest of this series? There appear to be three more books available. Please add them ASAP!!!

So far this series is priced less than a full credit. If you haven't tried it - do! It's fun, with a lot of humor, action, and a great plot line. I am going to be really disappointed if I have to read the rest of the series myself!

Really good read. Enjoyed it a lot.

A good continuation of the series. Still enjoy the characters. A few more battle scenes than could hold my interest but a fun listen.
