About this listen

After saving the world, diGriz is called on to save the universe. Liberating his two, now teenage, twin sons from a military boarding school and penitentiary, diGriz sets out to free his wife, who has been arrested by the tax men. But the family is soon fighting an enemy of a different sort when the humans-only galaxy of the League is invaded by all manner of hideous aliens.

The Rat, disguised in the most hideous combination of alien physical features, is sent into the centre of the aliens' stronghold, where he finds himself the object of desire among the aliens. His task is to stop the aliens, who plan to wipe out every human in the universe.

Love it.

Loved it when I was a teenager. Some 20 years later it's still an excellent read.

Top Notch Story, Top Notch Performance

Harry Harrison delivers another exciting and witty novel and Phil Gigante delivers another flawless performance. All other audio novels I have listened to since pale in comparison to the first four Stainless Steel Rat works.

Gigante performance getting better

you can see still presenting as a spoiled Ivy Leaguer but with the type of story and gaining of his mastery of the universe the grievance of the little better with the waiver form than this one

Rousing good fun!

I really enjoy the universe that has been created for this character and what a fun inventive character Slippery Jim is. Great complex story and well planned. The person who performs the read is outstanding and he really puts you into the story.

classic SCI-FI

I read a couple of these books when I was a young teen and liked them despite the author being a card carrying communist. The whole series is much better in order and the reader is fantastic. well worth the price of admission. Not real hip on his mocking god.

Rat Wins

Another entertaining story in the stainless steel rat series. The narration was excellent, expecially in keeping consistent with the unique voices of the wide range of characters.

Ok, but not as good as the previous novels.

This ine is short. It is also humor packed and it can be a bit distracting at times. The story is not as good as the others, but hey it's the stainless steel rat. that alone is worth a credit right? The funa nad attitude are there, but the author is definitely losing steam with the series by this point. It is still worth a llisten, but wait for a sale as the novel is too short to spend a credit on.

Undercover Calamari- first half was great

“What about the boys? …With their natural bent and inherited characteristics
they were fit only for lives of crime or careers in the core.”

The Stainless Steel Rat, his wife and his sons make saving the universe a family affair. Only, very soon, it’s back to being all about Slippery Jim. Still, this one was a lot of fun in the first half. More action, more humor, more skullduggery. Unfortunately, the second half gets a bit muddled, with too many time tropes and far fetched cons with Slippery Jim undercover as a tentacled alien.
