A terrific adventure!

Harry Harrison is a childhood favorite of mine, and I have always enjoyed the escapism of the Stainless Steel Rat stories. This is among the better ones. The reader also did a good job.

Over the top SciFi Crime romp

What made the experience of listening to The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge the most enjoyable?

The reader took great pains to put 'umph' into the story as he read - solid expression, tone inflection, etc. The story is a bit predictable, with enough change ups here and there to keep you going. I read this when I was a teenager, years ago, and have intro'd it to my own teenager who is very much enjoying both the stories and the reading style.

What other book might you compare The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge to and why?

Reminds me of Heinlein's lighter "teenage boy" SF - closest to Moon is a Harsh Mistress, in the sense that this book brings in some political and social issues as it tells the story.

Any additional comments?

Don't take the SSR novels to seriously - I don't think they are intended to be serious novels, rather light hearted easy read romps, light space opera fare, not very complex. Explosions, fun language, and over the top scenes and characters abound.

Stainless Steel Rat

I rewad all of the Harry Harrison books as a young man and was fascinated to see they were still available. I have now bought most of them and have enjoyed them as much as I did more than 40 years ago

Great Classic

As fun to listen to as it was to read, and re-read. Will probably re-listen. Great series. Light and entertaining.

Too Much Set Up

The last book was fast paced and full of content, but this one consisted of Jim hiding in a desert for 3/4 of the book.

teen years favorite

well preformed, delivers the funny, cockey attitude of Slippery Jim. A fun adventure with a great character.

Tongue in Cheek

This is a tongue in cheek humor adventure Sci-Fi. James (The Rat) is a neat character and his wife is an even better character. A lot of the stunts are funny and you see them coming before they happen. Some of the jokes get repeated a little too often. The plot is not complicated, when there is a plot. This was written nine years after the first Stainless Steel Rat was written and the improved writing shows, although I think I wrote something like this in the 8th grade. This is one of those kind of stories that a kid would enjoy writing and reading. This is feather light reading and sometimes that is what you want.

I prefer the HH's more serious stuff such as the Eden series (all three books are great). I also liked Captive Universe and Hammer and the Cross. Hammer and the Cross is the first of a series, but you only want to read the first book.

I am not sure I have heard this narrator before and he did a great job.

If you like the rat you'll like this one

This is another good book in the series. It isn't deep, in fact the plots are pretty flimsy. The draw are the great characters Slippery Jim and Angelina are just plain fun to read about. It is fun along the way of a sci-fi version of ocean's 11. it is fun to see how they pull off the impossible.

The books are old and pretty dated, but as a story they hold up. In particular my 12 year old daughter loves these much as I did when I was around her age. This is not only a fun book but one you can read with the kids.

CSI in Space with Perfectly Snarky Narration!

Would you listen to The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge again? Why?

Yes. I listened to the first book and now am addicted to this hilariously funny series of CSI-like romps in space -- dang it!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Slippery Jim, of course.

What about Phil Gigante’s performance did you like?

Gigante is a perfect match for narrating these humorous stories. He is amazing. His combination of introspective, whimsical, snide, and nonchalant delivery, with perfect inflections and pauses, really make Harrison's "Stainless Steel Rat" audiobooks a complete joy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved to laughter and choking snorts throughout. At the end, despite all attempts to resist, I was moved to buy the next book in the series. What a scam!

Any additional comments?

Warning: Don't even start to listen to these books, as they are extremely addictive!
