Publisher's summary

Sarah Songan is a woman on the run.

In an attempt to find peace with their neighbors, the Apsáalooke chief has promised her hand to a soldier at Fort Smith, and Sarah’s determined not to be traded or bartered like an ornament. She strikes out on her own, leaving behind everyone and everything she has ever known. However, a woman travelling alone in 1866 Montana territory can fall prey to unscrupulous men. Sarah must confront her fears and draw on an inner strength she didn’t know she had, as well as a new-found hope in God, if she is to survive.

Bill Hanover is a tired and lonely cowboy. After four long years fighting in the War Between the States, he returns to his family ranch in Montana only to discover it’s no longer his home. He heads south to Cutter's Creek, where he encounters a beautiful woman whose feisty spirit takes his breath away. But she’s hiding a secret, and her past is about to catch up with her. Bill turns to God for help and guidance, and encounters a new kind of love.

Set in beautiful, wild, and untamed, 19th-century Montana, this novella will take you on a journey back in time to the perilous life of a pioneer on the western frontier.

One of my favorite books of all time

I loved Sarah, the main character from the first moment I read about her. I admired her character and willpower throughout the story. I found myself unsure of the main male character, Bill - he is not your average male lead (which makes things interesting!) but as I went along I fell in love with him and really enjoyed hearing how their relationship developed. I loved that the Indian people included in the story were likeable/normal human beings. They were not portrayed as horrible, scary, bloodthirsty people as they are often portrayed in western novels. Overall fantastic book!

The Strong One

Sarah calls upon her inner strength and sets out on her own before she can be given away to wed a soldier. She is persued by an unscrupulous man who knows the she is a “mixed breed”, and this forces her to run again. Fortunately she meets Bill... and just maybe he’ll be the one to help her stop running.

I thoroughly enjoyed Vivi Holt’s story and Paul Curtis’s narration.

Great little book!

Vivi Holt writes a great story about a woman who is trying to find herself, running from those who want her for their own gain and discovering that God works in people's lives even if they do not fully understand or know Him. Though the hero, Bill is strong and has his own issues of his past and looking for a new future, the story's main focus is on Sarah and her journey. Their story is a sweet story of love, discovery and new beginnings.

Paul Curtis has a western twang and it is perfect for this book! He does a great job in playing several characters and paces the book very well. If other Cutter's Creek books are just like this one, the series should be fun to listen to!

The Strong One is a great little book in the Cutter's Creek multi-author series. This book was nice because I never felt like I was missing something since I have not read any of the other books.

Sweet story

It is a story of a strong willed young woman. It has a sweet ending as well. The narrator has a good voice. One thing I liked about him is that he didn't do the women's voices silly. I enjoyed listening to it.

Sweet romance between two interesting characters.

Sarah was running from her home when she was waylaid by a criminal determined to have her for his own. She gets away from him and comes upon another man. She is certain he would treat her the same as the bad man so she avoids him. She is picked up by an older couple who sell pots and pans from their wagon. They take her to their home where she happens upon the second man she ran from. She realizes he means her no harm so a friendship ensues.
