Sweet Western Romance, fun storytelling

What did you love best about Sourdough Creek?

I liked the storytelling. There was a good amount of adventure throughout. I would read other stories by Ms. Fyffe.

What other book might you compare Sourdough Creek to and why?

Marie Higgins, A Walk in Heaven - fun, clean western romance.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Mouth noise and overall rhythm of narration. For the majority of the book, Mr. Andreen read using the same pattern/rhythm.

Who was the most memorable character of Sourdough Creek and why?

Arvid, because his voice characterization fit. He is mean and conniving.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the overall story. Unfortunately, there was mouth noise (clicks) from the narrator and I could hear room noise in between chapters. I liked the narrator's voice, but I don't think Mr. Andreen was a good fit for this particular book. I would give Mr. Andreen another try, because he has a nice voice.

Hearing is as good as reading....or a little bette

It has been a long time since I read Sourdough Creek, and I really didn't remember it very well. Hearing the words spoken brought the characters into life and made the story more inviting to me. This is the story of two orphaned girls who find themselves owners of a gold mine in California, but first they have to get there. There are bullies in their town they have to escape; outlaws they have to avoid and a persistent Sam Ridgeway. Sam was robbed of the deed to the mine by the girls uncle and he is determined to regain it. This was a great book and I know you will enjoy it.

A wonderful and exciting adventure...

Would you listen to Sourdough Creek again? Why?

Absolutely! The storyline is exciting, interesting and filled with adventure in the old west. It is my favorite genre'. I read the book when it first came out and now listening to it, the story was new all over again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sam is my favorite. No matter how tough he acted, his heart melted when he was around Cassidy. His consideration for the younger sister, Josephine, was thoughtful and I could "hear" his tenderness.

Which scene was your favorite?

The opening of the saddlebags after the flood and finding her bible there but not her gold was written so well, I felt I was on the bank of the river sitting in the mud.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, I wanted to continue listening but I was interrupted by family events so it took me a couple days. I never felt the book lacked excitement.

Any additional comments?

This is a book I will keep on my cloud not only as audible but as an ebook itself. I often re-read my favorites.

Heart Warming Love Story

Sourdough Creek is a heart-warming, feel-good, romance that portrays strong love, betrayal and trust. It is not raunchy. Cassie and Luke’s story had a lot of twist and turns most of which happened at their claim on Sourdough Creek. The author pays attention to details and I loved how she described scenery and drudgery of the back breaking toil of mining gold. Lately, I have listened to a lot of books that are predictable but not so with Carolyn Fyffe. I have just learned to listen and enjoy her books.

First and foremost, you are going to love the character of Sam Ridgeway. He is just an honest man that you couldn’t help but root for. I don’t want to give away the story but he won some personal possession stolen by Cassie’s wicked Uncle. He offers assistance to Cassie and her sister on their way to what he concludes must be his gold claim. Along the way they have many adventures, some of which pulls them apart and others that shows Cassie what a good man Sam is. I must mention the cat Ashes who saved the day several times. What would a good western be without outlaws and horses. This story had it all. The overall performance was also very good. I loved the different voices.
