About this listen

Sisters of the heart play Cupid in New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown’s funny and heartwarming novel about friendship, family, and finding love.

Gussie, Ina Mae, and Blanche have been best friends for more than sixty years. From their humble beginnings of founding the Sunshine Club when they were girls to becoming the matchmaking queens of Newton, Texas, these three were inseparable. When Blanche passes away, Gussie and Ina Mae feel the best way to honor their dearly departed is with a shot of whiskey, some good music, and making a match for Blanche’s niece, Sissy.

Never mind that Sissy’s in town for only six weeks. Is there a better reason for her to stay? And is there a better prospect than handsome, charming, blue-eyed local preacher Luke Beauchamp? No and no. The attraction is already there. Now it’s up to Gussie and Ina Mae to make sure the sparks really get to crackling by Christmas.

The Sunshine Club is back in business. Don’t underestimate two feisty women who have their hearts set on a happy ending.

Critic reviews

“As Sissy returns home to Newton, Texas, after the sudden death of her beloved Aunt Blanche, narrator Brittany Pressley makes her grief palpable for listeners.... Pressley gives Luke, a man of God, a calm manner without losing any of his masculinity. She provides subtle nuances as Sissy senses Blanche's presence from beyond, speaking to her and offering advice. Sissy has inherited a vodka-demanding cockatiel, and Pressley's portrayal of the bird adds a touch of vibrancy. Pressley brings the listener through the characters' grieving and journey back to happiness.” (AudioFile Magazine)

Sweet story. The Sunshine Club of Gussie and Anna May along with all the characters of Newton made for a delightful story. Add a little romance between Sissy and Luke, Christmas in a small town and you have a good story all wrapped up in a bow!

Lovely sweet story

If you're looking for a peck on the cheek romance novel that is pure and sweet, then you have found your book. No real depth to the story itself to balance things out, but the narration was excellent. Sweet story, just not worth a credit, to be honest.

Decent story but a bit sappy. Characters definitely fictional. Loved the birds though, thought they were a hoot.

A little predictable and

I didn’t like this book as much as I have liked other Carolyn Brown books I have listened to. It ends well, but it’s a bit of a slow start.

Not quite as good as her other books

This one was not my favorite of the author’s books. Some of the choices made by the characters were not believable and some of the characters were detestable. That being said I still love this author and will continue to listen and read her books. The narrator was great as always.

Not my favorite

Predictable southern story of love, church, friendship, grief, charitable good works and dedicated community involvement.
