Will Theseus escape from the maze that is guarded by the awful Minotaur — half-man, half-bull? Can Jason steal the Golden Fleece from under the nose and claws of a vicious dragon? Can Odysseus outsmart the witch whose potion has turned his men into pigs? And will Cadmus rescue his sister from the bull who has kidnapped her — and who turns out to be none other than mighty Zeus himself in disguise? Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804–1864) is considered to be one of the greatest American authors of the nineteenth century. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, he used Puritan New England as a setting for many of his short stories, allegorical tales, and novels. The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne’s masterpiece, has never been out of print since it was first published in 1850.

The chapter divisions do not line up with the story titles.

Why would anyone do that?

I have to fast forward ahead and find them.

It makes no sense.
