The story is amazing and I LOVE that it is Christian friendly! Although the pronunciations made are a little different and slightly annoying. They pronounce the name Joel as “Yoel” and it really throws me off. But other than that it is very good!

Love the book, but pronunciations are a little confusing

....set believably in Galilee, brilliantly contrasts prejudice and hate with Christ's message of love.

A novel of true hope and redemption,...

I love the characters and especially Jesus and Rome is pretty sick. I also love character growth of Daniel and Leah

I heard about this book while listening to the The Bible Project podcast. Historical fiction is a genre I very much appreciate but quality within the genre of Christianity rare to find. When the podcaster mentioned it as a Newbery winner and expressed his appreciation, I decided to try it during Holy Week. I am so glad I did. The characters are well crafted and diverse. The story essentially and historically accurate. The fights for justice and peace in the midst of injustice and violence are as varied as the boys and girls who grow up inheriting them and just as fruitless. The remedy, though, is tragically singular but universally fruitful. 50 years hasn’t changed the power of this book any more than the 2010 years before it.

Timeless and compelling
