In 1691, the town of Crossfall taught the witch Thessaly how to die. They beat her, they shot her, they hung her--but nothing worked. When they finally tried to bury her alive Thessaly set the field against them. The first man died as a gust of wind harrowed the meat from his bones. A root, flung like a dirty javelin, cut a second man down. Many more deaths followed. The Preacher Fell impaled the witch upon her very own broom but she dragged him down into the field to wait for three more centuries.
Three hundred years later Maddy Harker will murder her bullying husband Vic. She will bury him in the field as she buried her abusive father years before that. The very same field where the revenant spirit of Thessaly Cross lies waiting.
In three days Vic will rise again - a thing of dirt, bone and hatred.
Men will call him the Tatterdemon. And hell--and Thessaly--will follow!

A unique horror novel

I actually quite liked this book. Very remeniscent of the old 90's horror movies in it's feel. The narration is well done and the southern fried dialog was very entertaining. It's twisted and fun. Well worth a try if you like the horror genre.

There are some things I didn't understand, but I think a second listen would easily clear it up. I think it was because I had a hard time keeping up with who is who. It also seemed to take a bit to get into the swing of things, kind of like "alright this is kinda weird but where is it going".
Some of the sayings/expressions/metaphors used were just down right hilarious. Don't listen if you're easily offended though!
I think the narrator nailed the performance perfectly. His voice makes it seem like the story was set somewhere in a small town in the south (I hope that was the intention). The redneck expressions and "aints", etc. lead me to believe that was the case, but the author never really says.
I received a review copy and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
Bizzare but the Southern Expressions are Hilarious

It also deserves to be told by a good story teller and in this case the match between narrator and story seemed to fit perfectly. The narrator gave the characters life, and as tension ratcheted up throughout I never once was taken out of the story flow by the narration.
I received this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I highly recommend this story and the author/ narrator involved in its creation.
Perfect Mesh of Story and Performance

Crazy and gripping

The characters are larger than life and the descriptive writing of Mr Vernon is superb.
Rick Gregory's narration is excellent and he adds so much to the enjoyment and black humour of this book.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.

Wow!300 years ago a witch puts a spell on a family.A bit gorey but good.
A woman buries her husband in her field, not knowing that it is cursed and nothing good will come of it. Other people get dragged into the magic of the Tatterdemon.A really good story all the way through.
Rick Gregory was a fine narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
