Cam didn’t free the terrifying Bone Wolf King from its prison, but everyone blames him anyway.
Now, he’s on the run with the mysterious Elenna Whitewinter, a girl from a race of shapeshifting deceivers. Elenna knows how to defeat the monsters slaughtering the people of High Home, but no one trusts her…except Cam.
Hunted and alone, Cam and Elenna set out to kill a creature—that no one has seen in two hundred years—in order to save the people who want them dead. But for Cam, what Elenna tells him about his identity is the hardest truth to accept, a truth that will change his life forever...

Wonderful series (4 books in), highly recommended.

This book isn’t quite as “epic” as Trysmoon, the scope of the first installment is narrowly focused mostly on one “town” and follows from the point of view of one character. John Banks is a great narrator and he does a great job here.
The story was original and crafted well enough to keep my attention the whole way through, I found myself fully immersed and then looking forward to the next installment when the book ended.
I am hoping that the scope widens some with the next book, but I was more than satisfied with this first introduction to the world. Under normal circumstances, I would probably rate this book a 4 (I normally only give 5 stars to books that are totally exceptional), but given the lack of reviews of this book I feel that it deserves more attention and so I’m reluctantly breaking my own rating rules to try to give it a bump.
I will definitely be picking up book 2, and so I’m giving everyone who likes well-written and engaging Fantasy a strong recommendation to spend a credit on The Bone Wolf King.
Give it a shot.

The story unfolded differently, though, and held my interest through the first half of the book. Regrettably, the special power he possessed and the mechanics of summoning was somewhat ridiculous and completely useless if he was alone facing threats. Also, the familial divisiveness was nonsensical after learning near the end what his step-mother had done with her children.
John Banks' performance was noteworthy.
I'll not be following this series.
The most unique magical power ever encountered

Poor storytelling all around. world building sucks, character building sucks, story sucks. even the magic powers that people have suck.
Also, you know those ahitty moments in movies where the character does he glaringly stupid thing ? Literally every chapter there is a moment like that.
200+ titles in my audible and this is the first that I absolutely cannot recommend.
