About this listen

Fleeing a disastrous marriage, Helen Huntingdon retreats to the desolate mansion, Wildfell Hall, with her son, Arthur. There, she makes her living as a painter. Finding it difficult to avoid her neighbors, she is soon an object of speculation and gossip. Brontë portrays Helen's eloquent struggle for independence at a time when society defined a married woman as her husband's property.

Outstanding Narration

It is overall a good story but made a great "read" by the narrators, whose characterizations were perfect and flowed seamlessly together.

Hooked on Brontë

Overall I really enjoyed the story and would recommend. Part one really drew me in and I spent most of part 2 in Helen's story just wanting to get to the point that caught up to the present day story. I got weary of the storyline as I am not as patient not as prudent as women of this era. I found myself wanting more of a conclusion that felt so short and lacking after such a drawn out middle. Still enjoyed the story and would still recommend!

Awesome

Beautiful story, and read and performed very well by the two narrators. This is the first book I read by Anne Brontë and I enjoyed it, I will be going to Agnes Grey next!

This one was a little hard to vibe with

I overall did enjoy this book, but the pacing was so slow I feel asleep listening. May to pick it up again in the future.

A Classic

i first read the Tenant of Wildfell Hall many years ago, and I decided to listen again on audible, and I'm so glad I did. it's a wonderful, Victorian romance with quite a few twists and turns. It's enlightening regarding the lives of the Victorian gentry and women's subservient role in society. The story itself is perhaps too long and repetitive for contemporary readers, but the fabulous narration makes up for the excessive length of the narrative.

Great read

This book held my interest until and was very interesting. I like the manner of speaking which is English but a little bit convoluted, it mixes things up a little. Both narrators we're excellent. The ending was a little bit of a mish mash but finally got there.

Interesting time.

I absolutely adored the story and the characters. However, the main character began to be a little bit irritating with her self righteousness, but all in all, I enjoyed this read.

Difficult to put down an easy to pick up!

I found the first couple of chapters to be difficult to understand, with all of the different characters. However, by the time I came to the middle of the third chapter, the setting and characters were coming together in my mind. The deepness of each character penetrates into the soul. This is a book I will absolutely listen to again.
