About this listen

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim, read by Sean Pratt.

'Is it the world that's busy, or my mind?'

The world moves fast, but that doesn't mean we have to. In this timely guide to mindfulness, Haemin Sunim, a Buddhist monk born in Korea and educated in the United States, offers advice on everything from handling setbacks to dealing with rest and relationships. Haemin Sunim's simple messages - which he first wrote when he responded to requests for advice on social media - speak directly to the anxieties that have become part of modern life and remind us of the strength and joy that come from slowing down.

Hugely popular in Korea, Haemin Sunim is a Zen meditation teacher whose teachings transcend religions and borders and resonate with people of all ages. With insight and compassion drawn from a life full of change, the 'mega-monk' succeeds at encouraging all of us to notice that when you slow down, the world slows down with you.

About a month ago, a friend of mine posted on social media that she was to start reading this book, when I saw the title, it kept thinking... so I decided to download the audio version which stayed unplayed for another month until today.

This book is wonderful... it is relatable and very informative. I felt like I was having a story time session with some and we were sharing life stories and lessons.

“The things you can indeed see only when you slow down”:- we often forget and get soo deep into the unnecessary. Soon I will be turning 30yrs old, and I really recommend this book to everyone but most especially people in their 20s & 30s for this is where most people lose there ways in a bid to dance to the world’s tune.
10/10 👍🏽

This is exactly what I need at this point in my life. 😊

This book will change your reality as it changes your perception. Writer is very skilled at simplifying complex philosophical concepts of Buddhism. It’s very original and refreshing. Read it slow, read it again

Quite an eye opener

I loved this book! Eye-opening, mind-blowing and heart-warming all at the same time.

Haemin Sunim gives us the simplest (and yet so beautiful) solutions to everyday problems.

It gives the reader a more calming and positive view even on some of the most difficult situations. It helps you learn more about yourself and how you can change your thoughts or emotions when you cannot change the external situation.

Calming and positive

I didn’t learn as much as I expected I would from listening to this book.

Less informative than I expected

Probably a great and low key introduction for absolute mainstream to mindfulness. However, if you want more depth, this is just incoherent, seemingly random verses from a monk.

Superficial and incoherent intro to mindfulness

This title never grasped me, very high level and short.
Overall a couple of valuable takeaways but not enough depth.

Decent but not revolutionary
