About this listen

The Courage to Be Disliked, already an enormous best seller in Asia with more than 3.5 million copies sold, demonstrates how to unlock the power within yourself to be the person you truly want to be.

Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 20th-century psychology, The Courage to Be Disliked follows an illuminating conversation between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others. It's a way of thinking that is deeply liberating, allowing us to develop the courage to change and to ignore the limitations that we and other people have placed on us. The result is a book that is both highly accessible and profound in its importance. Millions have already read and benefited from its wisdom. This truly life-changing audiobook will help you declutter your mind of harmful thoughts and attitudes, helping you to make a lasting change, achieve real happiness, and find success.

It's quick read, dialogue while not dialectic

Beyond inspiring positive action, this book encourages us to face life lies and the self-defeating nature of trying to make other people happy. It is an excellent summary and introduction to Alfred Adler's philosophy of Individual (indivisible) Psychology.

Easy to understand

This book is what every self help book should be; easy to grasp and readily applied to ordinary life. The ideas are presented in the form of a dialogue that examines challenges of accepted norms, common doubts, and opposing viewpoints to those asserted by Adlerian psychology so that one arrives at a balanced view. The listener takes on the role of casual observer which allows the meaning to penetrate to a deeper level beyond pressures to make drastic adjustments in accordance to a linear path or plan of action. I don’t feel so much like I need to be a different person after listening to this book than I feel ready and better able to embrace my true self. This book gave me a deeper sense of inner strength that aligns with my core values of freedom and gratitude. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with disillusionment with hierarchical social structures and needs help finding a new path.

Can be annoying

I appreciate Adler and appreciated the dialogue aspect of this audio recording, though I found the young man’s voice or tone to be seriously annoying at times.

Brilliant, eye opening, and congruent to my belief

As an author, I appreciate a great narrative. The boy in the book definitely was me, this book gives practical wisdom with proven science to help the reader overcome major issues. As a boy growing up.. my father would often say I had an inferiority complex, the sting of that took me to many places, with this book, I now have better understanding of the freedom that comes from maturity and living a life minus the nature/nurture issues that plague society. Excellent resource, I purchased both the Audio and Kindle... and plan to dissect this work and allow it to get into the fiber of my being...
