Publisher's summary

Richard Hanney is an ordinary man, drawn into mysteries he does not understand, and no one is willing to help him. In these 2 suspense novels written by the father of the modern spy thriller, Hanney must outwit villains in unnerving situations that lay bare the thin veneer separating civilized man from the barbarian. These novels - the first 2 from the series The Four Adventures of Richard Hanney, are presented in unabridged form, detailing every moment of these suspense-filled thrillers.

Not Hitchcock

I think I chose to purchase this audio book because of the Hitchcock film of the same name. I hadn't ever read the actual book and so didn't know what I was getting into. Alas, the whole experience was disappointing because of how dated everything was: story, narration and sound quality. Sigh. I had high hopes.

Very poor sound quality

The sound quality of this recording is so bad it is unlistenable. The books are among my childhood favourites (from my grandfather's bookshelves). But I can't listen to this - it has been a total waste of money and I am extremely disappointed. As a new user I did not notice that it only rated a maximum of 2 for sound quality until after purchase, but even that is extremely generous.

The best two Buchan novels!

The early 1900's version of what would become James Bond is well written & delivered in a great fashion as well! While Buchan's short story collection is entertaining, these two longer navels are well thought & historically accurate. A long lost pair of classics!
