Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, read by Daniel York Loh.

Read the award-winning, critically acclaimed, multi-million-copy-selling science-fiction phenomenon – soon to be a Netflix Original Series from the creators of Game of Thrones.

1967: Ye Wenjie witnesses Red Guards beat her father to death during China's Cultural Revolution. This singular event will shape not only the rest of her life but also the future of mankind.

Four decades later, Beijing police ask nanotech engineer Wang Miao to infiltrate a secretive cabal of scientists after a spate of inexplicable suicides. Wang's investigation will lead him to a mysterious online game and immerse him in a virtual world ruled by the intractable and unpredictable interaction of its three suns.

This is the Three-Body Problem and it is the key to everything: the key to the scientists' deaths, the key to a conspiracy that spans light-years and the key to the extinction-level threat humanity now faces.

Amazing story. Can’t stand this narrator

I’m only a fourth into it and I’m hating the narrator so much I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it. And I’ve only made it this far because the book itself is fantastic. I wish I had bought the kindle version instead.

Amazing story. Probably the best science fiction book I’ve read so far.

This book is very unique in so many ways. The author has done great job of building the characters in this book. Also I was amazed how he has used deep scientific knowledge to weave the story that is deeply profound!

First Asian book

This novel is extremely rich with real scientific and historical facts threaded together by the author in a beautifully illustrated piece of art

Well worth listening

An excellent sci-fi book, worth listening both to experience the wonders of Three Body, and to observe the influence of author’s native culture on atmosphere and meaning of the story. The narrator sounds harsh, but he did a good job to convey not only the book’s content but also the nature of its original language.

Great story, great book, terrible narration

I’m sorry but this is just what it is. The book is simply incredible, characters could be a little more developed but it’s amazing, but the narration is just so bad

an interesting proposal

It's always great when you're mind is opened up to different vantage points. With my European ears I found it difficult to keep the Chinese names apart at first. But there is luckily a PDF with the book that names the most important characters and who they are. Reading some other comments I was a little worried about the narrator. But it had no cause. The narration is good, pleasant sounding and engaging.

Out of this world

The way this book describes reality, even being science fiction, leaves you anxious and knee deep in cosmic horror. Be ready to swim in unfatomable hard scify waters and prepare yourself to face a reality that could, after all, not be fiction, because as history has taught us, the supernatural of today is the science of tomorrow.

entetaining

I'm no physicists so I enjoyed this story purely from entertainment POV and no idea about the science. some characters are compelling whilst some aren't fleshed. I've seen the netflix adaptation and I find the book explains a lot more although the TV series is more exciting to watch especially the judgment day scene. many were unnecessarily changed tbo where in this book it makes sense and Yu Wenjie is much more sinister. when the story shifted to the trisolarians in the last chapter or so it becomes really technical and dry and I was totally lost. I didn't find that interesting. I don't get why the TV version named them santi. as for the narrator. I recognise his voice from the condor heroes series. he is great even if his American accent was terrible. he delivered enough with the emotions and feeling and sounded clear and precise. I'm glad I chose his version. overall enjoyable but the science stuff was hard to understand and dragged the story down for me.

What a massive story

The scope and thought is just enormous. There are just so many layers, so much imagination and world class storytelling. This is definitely going down in history as one of the science fiction greats.

The narration could have been a bit more interesting though. It’s not an easy task to narrate this book, by any means. Respect is due. But I do want to give feedback about the American accents in particular. and a lot of the dialogue felt a bit flat.

But that didn’t get in the way of enjoying this book…too much.
