Publisher's summary

Breeze is an outcast, a half-breed orphan born into a world torn apart by a thousand years of war. Breeze never knew her elven mother, and when her human father is recalled to the war, he leaves her in the safest place he knows: in the care of a reclusive tinker. The Tinkerman's inventions are frightening at first - noisy, smelly, dangerous machines with no practical use - but when the war comes home, Breeze sees an opportunity. If she can pull it off, she'll change the world forever. If she fails, she'll be considered a traitor by both lands and will be hunted to her death.

An enjoyable story

Overall I really enjoyed this. The main characters were well defined and likable. A unique story. My complaint (spoiler free) is that, for the 2nd half of the story, everything progressed too quickly and easily. As an adult male, I realize that I am not the target audience. But, personally, I would have preferred that things progressed with more conflicts, taking a couple more hours to resolve. I believe that would have made it more "realistic."
Still, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

it's fine

I didn't turn it off but also don't plan on reading it again. I wouldn't tell people not to listen to it but also wouldn't really recommend it either.

Simplicity of the story

You are drawn into the story by the machinations of the warring factions. At the heart of it is Breeze. You are caught in her predicament of being apart of two varied cultures.

Can't listen to this narration.

A new quality low for Audible. A speech-impeded narration. Will need to read a paper copy instead.
