Not what I expected, but in some ways better!

I really hearing the Lakota views of the Creator, how he should be treated, and how people should treat each other. It's very much the same as the Judeo-Christian view, but simpler and more meaningfully rendered. It's heartbreaking how the Christians the Lakota encountered focused on the differences and the "Don't s" instead of the commonalities and the "Do's."

This wasn't as much about Gillian as I expected. The narrator did a great job with the voices. Next time I will read/listen to it in Chronological order, without all the jumping back and forth between eras. I think I will enjoy it better that way.

This is becoming one of my favorite series, almost as good as Iron Druid, Dresden Files, and Riyria.

As always Kevin Hearne did a fine job with all of the voices and accents. But these characters and story can't compare to the adventures of Atticus, Oberon and Granuaille.

Overall I really enjoyed this. The main characters were well defined and likable. A unique story. My complaint (spoiler free) is that, for the 2nd half of the story, everything progressed too quickly and easily. As an adult male, I realize that I am not the target audience. But, personally, I would have preferred that things progressed with more conflicts, taking a couple more hours to resolve. I believe that would have made it more "realistic."
Still, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This was not a complete story. It was only a part of the story. I'm not even sure it was the beginning.

The narrator's reading was good, but her range of voices was very limited. As with many books, the listening experience would have been enhanced by adding a maler narrator in addition to the female.

The story was enjoyable, once it got rolling. Lots of drama and a little humor. The narrators, especially the man, spoke so slowly that I had to speed the book up by 10%.

Why Raccoons?

My main complaint is the virtual voice narration. Every character sounds exactly the same, which makes the conversations confusing.
Next, why racoons? There is very little to distinguish these characters from people, or their world from that of humans.
Finally, this novella is just the intro to a larger story. Nothing in the description says that. They have basically cut a novel into pieces so they can make more money selling them separately.
