About this listen

Gary Karkofsky, aka Merciless the supervillain without mercy, is presently the most disliked supervillain in the world. Superheroes don't want to just throw him in jail, they want to deliver an epic beat down for ending their golden age by killing Merciful, the superhero with mercy. His fellow supervillains aren't much better, either jealous of his success or loathing him for all the other baddies he's killed. Also, what's up with his wife, Mandy? She's been acting extra strange since getting her soul back (long story). That's when Gary receives an invitation to the Primal Fighting Tournament - an interdimensional contest involving all the universe's greatest warriors. The prize? A wish with no limitations. Gary can finally get on that world domination thing he's been putting off.

Unfortunately, Gary is competing against good and evil way above his league. Not only Gabrielle Anders, aka Ultragoddess, his former fiancée, but Entropicus, the Space God of Evil. Thankfully, Gary has allies from unexpected sources including Jane Doe, the protagonist of I was a Teenage Weredeer, G from Agent G, and Cassius Mass from Lucifer's Star.

Phipps Has Done It Again!

I had found this series 2 years ago when i first really got into audio books and needed something amazing to read, in walked The Rules of Supervillainy
i have listened to each book about 5 times, in preparation for this book, and it did not disappoint, neither C.T.Phipps no Merciless the Supervillian Without Mercy (Trademarked) have lost a step and i look forward to reading more from Phipps

Kafer talks good

Yet again the narrator has bloom me away with his ability to personify Merciless! The Kafer is my favorite narrator, and has made each of these books fun.

The narrative itself was good as always. I do feel like the characters spent a lot more time talking to eachother and in moments where they wouldn't have time to. It's not a major issue, and brings plenty of solid, and humorous, dialogue. Most of the best lines can be recalled during the fight scenes. But it's just been bugging me, the pocket of time just felt casual. Like they are mostly standing in a circle discussing every little thing that comes along.
This wasn't the case in all of the other books. A longer series like these do become more difficult to flesh out, after so much has already happened. But of every other detail of this book, I have no complaints at all!

Brilliant, as always

The dynamic duo of Phipps and Kafer strikes again! Great writing narrated perfectly.

If you like snark, sarcasm, and obscure pop culture references you'll love this book. If you don't, you'll still love this book.

It's good, but confusing

I enjoyed this book, overall, like the other books in the series, but it was considerably more confusing. Phipps introduced a number of new characters, some of which Kafer did a poor job of distinguishing their voices from Gary's. There were also a number of events, timeline changes, and conversations that made no sense, but I was still able to follow the overall story. It didn't put me off from the series, but I was more confused than usual.

Epically Awesome!!!

This is the culmination of awesome, boys and girls! Seriously, with all of the crossovers into Phipps' other worlds, this was a comic nerd's ultimate fan-fic. Kafer is one of my go-to narrators, so I knew this was going to be good. I was floored by the absolute awesome of this, though. Like, seriously... I love Gary and his harem... ahem, retinue. But Tournament was a culmination of every single ounce of awesome that is C.T. Phipps. Also, the two forwards made me laugh out loud. Thank you both, and who ever else helped in this story. It's my absolute favorite so far.

hurray!

thought this series had ended. I'm glad it wasn't. Love the 80's pop cultural references, and yes the song is now stuck in my head. loved, laughed, and can't wait for the next one.

Mortal combat meets the comic book world

So we have supervillains, superheroes and gods. All that’s missing is Christopher Lambert. The author takes some characters from some of his other stories and puts them here in this battle of champions. Really cool to see them mix like this. It’s a zany and weird action packed battle for all with more 80’s puns than stranger things. Enjoy it for what it is as I did. A break from the last book, but still great!

I hadn't listened to the last book for close to a year when this one came out, but it did a decent job in reminding me who all the characters were and why they were important. It did an amazing job of making fun of the comic book genre and how it continues to make characters fresh that were invented 70+ years ago in a post WWII/anti-Nazi/cold war era.
as a sucker for super hero books, I have also listened to several other popular series about them, and found myself laughing out loud when there main characters were people in the tournament! while this was a big change from the last few book, it was still impressively funny and entertaining. Highly suggested!
