Story
After the final battle of the Civil War, Confederate Sergeant Travis Kane rode his Yankee horse away from Palmito Ranch to return to his ranch in Uvalde County. As he began the two-hundred-and-fifty-mile ride across West Texas, Travis was grateful for surviving the long, bloody war without being wounded. But now that the fighting was over, his biggest concern was for his young wife because he hadn’t received a letter from Lillian in almost two years.

Story
American scientist Matt Miller is torn from his own century and dropped into Colonial America with nothing except a backpack. His phone, his money, and his identity are all useless and he quickly finds that he is foreign and alone in his own country. Matt must meet the challenge to survive in a newly forming society where he seemingly has no relevant skills and no one he can count on. He suspects that his 21st century knowledge of science and technology could make him a king in the New World, but he quickly finds that 18th-century America is a dynamic place where nothing is guaranteed.

Story
Driven by a compulsion that challenges his self-control, the man calling himself Charles Milton prowls the rodeo circuit, hunting young women. He chooses those he believes are the most vulnerable, wandering alone and distracted, before he strikes. For years, he has been meticulous in his methods, abducting, murdering, and disposing his victims while leaving no evidence of his crimes—or their identities—behind. Indigenous women have become his target of choice, knowing law enforcement’s history of ignoring their disappearances.

Story
It's the Christmas season and veterinarian Kate Turner is not feeling very jolly. She's overworked, unappreciated, and dealing with two dissatisfied clients. Throw in a very complicated personal life and Kate's definitely got a case of the holiday blues. To make matters worse, Kate's ex-boyfriend, Jeremy, is mugged and robbed after they have a heated argument in the hospital parking lot. Then, two of her dissatisfied clients turn up dead (which really gets Kate's tinsel in a tangle). All of these events seem like coincidences, but they add up to something much more venomous.

Publisher's summary
I’m a vet! Sound familiar?
Dr. Lauren Harper recently graduated from veterinary school—no surprises here. Her father is a vet, as was her long-deceased mother, Dr. Rebecca Harper. Lauren’s mom was killed in a landslide when Lauren was only three years old. On Lauren’s first day home from college, she discovers a story written by her grandfather about his life, including his attempts to find Lauren’s mother after the accident. Lauren learned to ride while accompanying her grandfather in his fruitless search for his daughter. Lauren’s on her way to join her fiancé in Texas, but all is not as it seems. Revelations cause her to reevaluate her plans—recalculating route! Lauren’s life takes a turn that will find her in Nevada and close to the area where her mother disappeared over 20 years ago. She hopes to practice equine veterinary medicine and do a bit of sleuthing about her mother’s mysterious disappearance. What could go wrong?Lauren’s modern-day adventures rival her mother’s. Will she stay in her current position, or will she seek a life that gives her security that any recent graduate would relish?
This is once again a mixture of veterinary stories, adventure, and love. But does it end happily ever after? You be the judge.

In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Beautiful solo narration!
I thoroughly enjoyed each chapter and character. Each character was brought to life as we hear about a fresh out of college veterinarian. Book 3 in the series begins Lauren’s Story, her love life, career and the desire to solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance.
Loved the southern accent, detailed medical descriptions and the building of friendships and love life.
