About this listen

The first wave of the Millennial Generation - born between the early 1980s and 2002 - is just graduating from college and entering the work force. Employers, meantime, are bracing for some of the biggest management challenges they've ever faced: Integrating the most demanding and most protected generation in history into a workplace shaped by the driven baby-boom generation. Like them or not, millennials are America's future work force. They are actually a larger group than the boomers - about 80 million vs. 76 million.

The millennials are a complex group - although they're hard-working achievers, most millennials don't excel at leadership and independent problem solving. They want the freedom and flexibility of a virtual office but they also want rules and responsibilities to be spelled out explicitly. "It's all about me," might seem to be the mantra of this demanding bunch of young people, yet they also tend to be very civic-minded and philanthropic.

If you could sum up The Trophy Kids Grow Up in three words, what would they be?

Now I know

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

seeing what makes these kids feel so entitled.

Have you listened to any of Erik Synnesvetd’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no, not that know.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

Millennials expect inordinately more than past generations.

Any additional comments?

Sadly this generation has been duped into think more highly of themselves than they ought. Even though they have the advantage of improved socio/economic system they will have to overcome their inability to withstand challenges. Great book to see why they act and respond as they do.

Had been struggling as a supervisor of what I found out to be typical "Millinneal" kids. Found the insights and suggestions great. Doesn't solve all problems but knowledge is power -- and at least I have somewhere to start and I know that I'm not the only one with similar concerns/challenges!

Useful insights!

Anyone working with members of the Millennial generation will love this informative audio book by Ron Alsop, a Wall Street Journal writer. It offers an interesting and insightful look at the newest generation to join the workplace by covering the upsides (tech savvy, bright, high aspirations) and the downsides (entitled, informal, impatient) using real world examples from managers at Fortune 100 firms and career services professionals from major colleges and universities. It is a fun, yet informative audio for those employers that have no idea how to attract, recruit, retain, successfully manage OR understand this unique generation.

A Fun, Informative Must Listen for All Managers!
