At least one out of four people prefers to avoid the limelight, tends to listen more than they speak, feels alone in large groups, and requires lots of private time to restore their energy. They're introverts, and here is the book to help them boost their confidence while learning strategies for successfully living in an extrovert world. After dispelling common myths about introverts-they're not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - The Introvert Advantage explains the real issues. Introverts are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation - chitchat, phone calls, parties, office meetings - can easily become "too much."

Handling people issues is every leader's major headache. It's what takes up the majority of their time and - more important - the bulk of their head space. I subsequently remember that 'little' parting gesture of the two-cent candy as a symbol of all that is Excellent at that store. Dozens of people who have attended seminars of mine have come up to remind me, sometimes 15 or 20 years later, of “the two-cent candy story,” and to tell me how it had a sizable impact on how they did business."

Story
Goldsmith implores listeners to avoid the Great Western Disease of “I’ll be happy when. . . .” He offers practical advice and exercises aimed at helping us shed the obstacles, especially the failures of imagination, that prevent us from creating our own fulfilling lives. With this book as their guide, listeners can close the gap between what they plan to achieve and what they actually get done—and avoid the trap of existential regret, the kind that reroutes destinies and persecutes our memories.

They actually have vastly different styles and backgrounds. Yet despite their differences, great managers share one common trait: They don’t hesitate to break virtually every rule held sacred by conventional wisdom. They don’t believe that, with enough training, a person can achieve anything he sets his mind to. They don’t try to help people overcome their weaknesses. And, yes, they even play favorites. In this longtime management bestseller, Gallup presents the remarkable findings of its massive in-depth study of great managers.

Game theory means rigorous strategic thinking. It’s the art of anticipating your opponent’s next moves, knowing full well that your rival is trying to do the same thing to you. Though parts of game theory involve simple common sense, much is counterintuitive, and it can only be mastered by developing a new way of seeing the world. Using a diverse array of rich case studies - from pop culture, TV, movies, sports, politics, and history - the authors show how nearly every business and personal interaction has a game-theory component to it.

Excellent Guide for Leaders
This book is not providing information that is revolutionary in the field of leadership. It does provide some proven principles that are supported by science and in-depth studies. If you listen to the LeadX Podcast you already know the author and how well he presents information.
I have many years of leadership experience but found sections of this book that will prove very useful to me. I am excited to move away from a To Do List and start using my Calendar to manage my days.

A Contrarian's Guide to Leadership: "Great Leaders Have No Rules"
The book “ Great Leaders Have No Rules" is a refreshing and often controversial take on leadership in the modern workplace. As someone who's always felt a bit out of step with traditional management styles, this book was a revelation. Kruse's "contrarian principles" resonated deeply with my own instincts, confirming that my unconventional approach might not be so wrong after all.
The book challenges many of the sacred cows of management, like the open-door policy and the importance of being liked rather than respected. Kruse argues, convincingly, that these well-worn practices often lead to inefficient communication, micromanagement, and a lack of focus on what truly matters: results.
Instead, he advocates for a leadership style based on trust, empowerment, and clear communication. He encourages leaders to "play favorites" (i.e., recognize and reward top performers), "close their open door policy" (to focus on deep work), and "reveal everything" (to build transparency and trust).
While some of these ideas may seem counterintuitive, Kruse backs them up with solid research and real-world examples. He shows how leaders who embrace these contrarian principles can create more engaged, productive, and innovative teams.
For me, "Great Leaders Have No Rules" was a validating and inspiring read. It gave me the confidence to continue on my own path, even when it diverges from the norm. If you're a leader who feels stifled by traditional management practices, or if you're simply looking for a fresh perspective, I highly recommend this book. It might just change the way you think about leadership.
Note: Even if your workplace doesn't always agree with your approach, this book provides the ammunition and rationale you need to defend your methods and prove their effectiveness.
