About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Truth About Keeping Secrets written and read by Savannah Brown.

Sydney's dad is the only psychiatrist for miles around their small Ohio town.

He is also unexpectedly dead.

Is Sydney crazy, or is it kind of weird that her dad - a guy whose entire job revolved around other peoples' secrets - crashed alone, with no explanation?

And why is June Copeland, homecoming queen and the town's golden child, at his funeral?

As the two teenagers grow closer in the wake of the accident, it's clear that not everyone is happy about their new friendship.

But what is picture perfect June still hiding? And does Sydney even want to know?

THE TRUTH ABOUT KEEPING SECRETS is a page turning, voice led, high school thriller.

Written and read beautifully by Savannah. A good story of coming to terms with various things and one that leaves you constantly wondering alongside the main character. Had to finish it quickly. I definitely recommend.

Savannah Brown has managed to keep me on my toes for well over 9 hours. I am immensely grateful for all the thoughts and feelings she has managed to put into words, I think of her as a friend even though I am but a stranger.

how fortunate that this book exists

An absolutely beautiful book about loss, life, and renewal. Savannah writes so beautifully that you feel like you are there which is rare to find. Adding just enough detail without over doing it. Explaining characters and scenes was expertly done and I felt like a 17-year-old female going through grief. Which is as wonderful as it is heartbreaking. All of the characters were interesting and had good-ish growth. Her sentence structure and depth in her writing is truly beautiful and hard to find. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Her narration was also excellent putting just the right emotion in her characters and was easy to follow who was saying what. Highly recommend.

Excellent All Around

This book made me feel. Not in a loud crescendo sort of way, but in a seeping sort of quiet presence. I couldn’t stop listening even though the material isn’t comfortable. I haven’t felt grief like Sydney has before, but I’ve felt a lot of the same things. I’d especially recommend the book to high schoolers. The writing is good. The descriptions of existential horror are poignant but somehow cathartic. It’s just, nice to see feelings usually so hidden and lonely just out there. It’s Melancholic, hoping, real, and lovely. I’ll remember this one.

I usually stick to sci-fi or fantasy books but took a chance on this particular book. The writing was exceptional and seem to flow in a way that wasn’t too boring nor too wordy. I especially like how she depicts emotions, if there any fault with the book, I would have to say that it was too short.

A good distraction.

Surprisingly existentialist and wonderfully imagistic, Savannah has written an inclusive small town thriller that doesn't fall prey to overused high school archetypes <3 loved it a lot

Savannah Brown’s writing is filled with enticingly realistic imagery. I can feel the crunch of snow beneath my feet, and the pain and heartache isn’t overdone. Although I was initially interested in this book for the “murder mystery” aspect, the nuggets of wisdom surrounding how the main character coped with her grief made me love this work. I can’t wait to see what else Savannah Brown’s mind creates in the future!

I couldn’t stop listening!
