Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.

More praise for Call Me By Your Name:

"Hammer’s soft, velvety voice lends itself perfectly to the story and its Italian setting. While you might think this one isn’t worth a listen if you’ve already seen the movie or read the book, many reviewers say it is still worth taking in even if you know the story - some even say it’s worth listening to more than once." Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2017

Andre Aciman's critically acclaimed novel may finally be stepping into modern classic status, having recently emerged from relative obscurity due to the upcoming movie release starring Armie Hammer. And its place in the literary canon is well deserved, depicting perfectly the infatuated experience of first love (I won't say "feeling" because the picture Aciman paints is not a singular "thing" - it's very much a journey through obsession). The story is beautiful, erotic, and feels firmly rooted in human truths (and will make you blush). But what makes it truly worthy of listening to - and why it's my pick for October - is THAT voice. Armie Hammer's narration is among the best I've ever experienced. —Emily, Audible Editor

Critic reviews

"...Hammer's voice is brimming with such melody that, if you listen to it long enough, you can probably get drunk off it." (Vulture.com)

"...Armie Hammer (who plays Oliver in the movie) steps effortlessly into Elio's interior world. The result is staggering." (BookRiot)

"A must-listen for anyone familiar with the book or film." (Buzzfeed)

Editor's Pick

One of my all-time favorites
"If Armie Hammer’s narration isn’t enough, let the upcoming sequel do the convincing (ask my fellow editors—I haven’t been able to shut up about it). With a voice so soothing and melodic that I honestly couldn’t help but get lost in the vivid descriptions, Hammer’s narration complements Aciman’s story perfectly. It’s a story that deserves to be listened to, over and over again. Trust me."

Beautiful [and different from the movie]

This is a beautiful book; beautifully performed. I had seen and loved the movie but the book is a largely independent experience. It's the same people saying some of the same things but you go inside their [actually just Elio's] head much more.

Brilliantly written, beautifully read

This is the first audiobook I’ve ever listened to because I’m in the military and I rarely have time anymore to sit and actually read. It’s terrible. But this novel makes every description into something summery, lustful, and Italian. The narrator is deep and sonorous and pulls you into the world of Elio and Oliver and Italy in the 1980s. I may listen again to get rid of the winter blues!

Not what you would expect

First of all the narration of this audiobook is A+. The main thing that caught me off guard was how rapidly the story intensified. If you're looking for a light or maybe not so light romance novel I would definitely recommend it.

Beautiful Story

Sometimes you start something without knowing the emotional path it will take you. This book was like that for me. I didn’t know what to expect and I found myself smiling at some parts and crying at others. There were moments when the story just tugged at my heart for one reason or another. It made me wish I could freely as they had, to be able to feel as raw as they had and to be able to love even for a few days as they had.
I loved listening to this even though at first it was a little hard to follow because of the way he (Armie Hammer) started his narration, it made me feel like it lacked emotion but perhaps that was only because of the character trying to be indifferent. I did in fact enjoyed how he began to, in a way “open up” as how he might have been feeling came through with every word.
I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a wonderful adventure in what at their time would have been a “forbidden love”. Or at least that’s what I felt from it.
