Just when I thought I'd finally found happiness, the nightmare I've been running from finds me, and my world goes dark.
Taking more from me than one person should ever have to lose, I end up on a new path, discovering I'm capable of things I never imagined possible, not even in the darkest parts of my imagination.
So much blood. So much pain. So. Much. Death.
Now, in a world where right is wrong, and the means justify the ends, where my presence brings destruction and devastation, I need to find my way back to the light, to joy. To love.
I thought when trouble came for me, I'd need the biggest monsters of the city on my side... but it turns out when you come for the people I love, I might be the biggest monster of all.
Intended for mature listeners.

The Truth We Seek pulled me in with its layered characters and left me sitting in my feelings like, “ma’am… was that necessary?” The emotional tension was chef’s kiss, and the connection between the leads had that perfect slow-burn ache—equal parts maddening and magnetic.
Was it perfect? Nah. The middle wandered a bit, like it got lost in its own introspection. But the payoff was worth the meandering—Lily Wildheart stuck the landing in a way that made me forgive the detours.
The prose was gorgeous without being pretentious, and the little gut-punch moments? Yeah… those hit harder than I expected. Would I recommend it? Absolutely
Color me intrigued and slightly emotionally wrecked.

There was something else revealed regarding betrayal that DEFINITELY should have been addressed more and much sooner than it was. It was like there was so much rambling thoughts of the FMC that the author got tired of writing and threw in the rest of the plot.
Also, sorry but you never find out why Mateo hates Quinn. I feel like he was just a tease to make us think he was going to do something bad.
Rory is supposed to be this super messed up torture guy but it takes him WAY too long to get answers out of someone and that whole plot point gave the person he was doing it to way too much credit for their character. There’s no way that character would have realistically taken so long to fold.
I also wished we had been given a deeper look into the characters and backstories of the men. We did get a little bit more into their business and rivals, which is what I had hoped for in the first book.
The voices did a great job, although I found it more enjoyable to listen at 1.05-1.1x speed. I found the men more enjoyable than the female voice, but hers was very relaxing.
Overall, I don’t regret the credit. I think it got better as it went on but there was a lot left unsaid and I definitely enjoyed the first book more.
Second listen:
After the funeral (no I won’t spoil whose) the story DRAGGED. I thought it was about to be over and looked to see there was four more hours left. Most of it is spent lost in the introspection of the FMC and a couple of steamy scenes. I feel like the FMC character is disjointed. She has these moments of confidence and light hearted humor externally that aren’t reflected in her internal character development. She still thinks exactly the same as she did in the beginning and I would have liked to see more of a mind shift for her beyond “‘I’m gonna LIVE, dammit’ *gets drunk*” All the time spent listening to FMC think about how sad she is could have been spent developing the plot- getting into the business dealings and opps of the men, getting more backstory on the betrayals, developing the characters of the MMCs, maybe adding something more in about crucial or mysterious SECRETS and how they become REVEALED, since that’s what the titles of these stories would hint at. All of those things get sprinkled in, but they feel like afterthoughts. I think I actually enjoyed the overall premise, but it ended up falling really flat and that’s sucks because the potential is definitely there.
Great potential. First book was better
