About this listen

'Tis the season for finding romance in this hilarious and uplifting holiday listen.

When it comes to relationships, 34-year-old Kate Turner is ready to say "Bah, humbug". The sleepy town of Blexford, England, isn't exactly brimming with prospects, and anyway, Kate's found fulfillment in her career as a designer and in her delicious side job baking for her old friend Matt's neighborhood café. But then her best friend signs her up for a dating agency that promises to help singles find love before the holidays. Twenty-three days until Christmas. Twelve dates with 12 different men. The odds must finally be in her favor...right?

Yet with each new date more disastrous than the one before - and the whole town keeping tabs on her misadventures - Kate must remind herself that sometimes love, like mistletoe, shows up where it's least expected. And maybe, just maybe, it's been right under her nose all along....

The minutiae slowed it down

I liked this book well enough, though my main issue is that it’s just a bit slow. Once I hit about date eight, I was ready for the story to be over — too many details about every date, every design on every item, etc. And I agree with others that felt the chemistry between the leads was lacking; and that Matt’s behavior toward Kate was sometimes toxic. The narrator was lovely.

Fine

The book is fine, even better to get you into the holiday spirit.

But don’t ever believe you need another person to be whole. That rankles me like nothing else.

Super fun & sweet read

The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss was a super cute and fun listen. I bought this with the intention of listening in early December, but somehow missed it and decided to take a chance that it would still be good in January and I am so happy that I did. This is the story of Kate Turner, age 34 and unlucky in love. At the (heavy) prompting of her best friend she signs up for a dating service that matches participants for twelve different guided dates throughout the month of December. I had a good idea of what was going to happen fairly early on in the book, but I enjoyed it all the same. The story was entertaining, the dates were amusing and/or cringy, and Kate was lovable. I did listen to the book and found the narrator to excellent, I loved her accent, and she enunciated the words well.

Cute and steady but at same time... huh?????

I mean.. it was clear where the story was intended to go but it was strange how it was started. Maybe its just me but i feel like the first part of this book was different than the second part. She goes on a particular date and suddenly realizes her feelings after listening to the first half of the book with her against those feelings? Then she goes from cute and independent to dreadful and clingy/sobby/mean mess quickly... maybe its just me but the story line moved quickly and jumped!

overall good book & good narration. i would suggest it to a friend but tell them the fair warning...

Fun and entertaining for a Christmas read

I enjoyed this book over my Christmas break. Once Kate started the 12 dates the story picked up momentum. Really enjoyed the performance

Delightful holiday rom com

Just right mix of interesting characters with sas, humor, and a storyline has a bit of relational suspense. It is so nice to hear a fun romantic story without any unnecessary R-rated, overly descriptive details, thank you!

Predictable Christmas Rom Com

The narrator was fabulous and I loved the descriptions of the English countryside with its flora and fauna but the cooking and baking went a little too in depth. At times it's like the author was expecting me to take notes so I could recreate the recipes. I kept spacing out and having to rewind when it would transition suddenly back to the story. The romance was very predictable, as was the cheating double cross, but overall I would recommend listening if you want a Christmasy easy listen
