Struggling with both PTSD and the trauma of his ex-wife's infidelity, retired marine Wesley Holt seeks a simple civilian life. His favorite waitress at the Perfect Diner secretly stirs his heart. Yet Wes - scarred by betrayal and racked by guilt over his fallen comrades in Afghanistan - stays quiet, convinced he can never love again...or be loved.
Waitress and single mother Carlie Stewart hides fear behind her smile. Her ex-husband has escaped from prison and wants their son - and revenge. When the fugitive arrives to wreak havoc, Wes insists Carlie and her son stay with him for protection. Finally daring to let her guard down, Carlie divulges her dark past to Wes, and, to her surprise, Wes appreciates her strengths and longs to trust her with his tattered heart. The safer they feel with each other, the more trust and passion grow. But can they overcome the demons in their pasts - and the heartbreak they've carried into the present - to build a lasting future together?

Eric G. Dove is one of my favorite narrators and was glad to see him chosen for this book (he narrates the Bluegrass Series by Kathleen Brooks). Wish he would have been picked to perform for all books in this series.
Great Series!

This wasn’t quite as sad and depressing as A Change of Heart because of Carlie’s crazy, escaped convict, ex-husband. However, When you read something in a book and you think “didn’t I just read that in the last book,” you gotta wonder how lazy an author can be to do that. When Carlie first went into Paige’s kitchen almost the exact same conversation was said as there was when Cory, A Change of Heart, went into Page’s kitchen. It was so glaring it wasn’t even funny. And when Cory brought a dish, for whatever she was bringing it for, it was Pasta Salad and when Carlie brought a dish it was a Pasta Salad. Really? But best of all was when Wes was going to teach Tyler, Carlie’s 6 year old son, how to pick up dog poop. Eww. Was that necessary? Or when the nurse then the PA, days apart, asked Wes if he had passed gas or pooped yet, while he was in the hospital. Seriously gross. In a romance novel it's just too hard to forget something you've read like that then think about them having sex. BUT, that's just me.
I’m glad Jared, the idiot ex, was in this book or I might have had a DNF on my hands.
Because there was a LOT of I’m not good enough for her and I’m not good enough for him going on, and I hate that!
Anyway, I’m done with the Perfect Indiana PTSD series.
There was explicit sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 5 times.
As to the narration: I absolutely love Eric G. Dove! His voices and emotions when he reads are spectacular.
Somethings are just too icky in a love story..
