About this listen
The Unfair Advantage is the edge-of-your-seat story of John “Robby” Eddy, a former federal prisoner whose crimes made national headlines. But that conviction was just the tip of the iceberg.
“I had done far worse,” Robby writes, “and with far worse people. I had been arrested 45 times, almost died a violent death on several occasions (including once by a contract killing), ravaged my mind and body with powerful drugs and nonstop drinking for years, and OD’d twice, once to the point of looking down on my coding body as the paramedics frantically applied the defibrillator paddles in the ambulance.”
All before his 29th birthday.
Then, one night, on a cold jail cell floor, he found the "unfair advantage" that turned his world around! Today, he is 10 years sober, with a beautiful wife and family, a prosperous business, and an all-in mission: to help others find the freedom he discovered.
A hair-raising tale - from brawls with skinheads to death threats from drug lords, from strutting around in Gucci and Rolex and Ferragamo to detoxing in a padded cell, from paying cash for luxury cars to fighting for his life in a federal pen - John “Robby” Eddy tells his story with a transparent honesty that will move and thrill your heart.
The Unfair Advantage: My Story of Conquering the Beast of Addiction will change your life.

I decided to write this book to share the last 20 years and how opiates devastated my life. I hope that people who listen to this book will learn about the disease of opiate addiction and seek help before it's too late. I share details about my life as it was before the injury and the many ways this injury turned my life and the lives of all those dear to me into a living hell over the next decade. This included my wife, children, extended family, and friends who also share their stories and experiences in this book.

Far more than a "business memoir", What Are the Odds? is a raw, authentic account by a man many thought would never rise above his serial, addiction-fueled failures. Mike's gripping narrative transports listeners from his small-town tavern with its colorful cast of "regulars" to Mexico and a drug deal gone awry. From Las Vegas casinos, where Mike won and lost fortunes as a professional gambler, to a jail-cell beatdown. From failed rehabs to his 20-year marriage, an ideal union decimated by addiction. And finally, to the redemption of the most shameful moment of his life.

Story
When Max Marshall arrived on the campus of the College of Charleston in 2018, he hoped to investigate a small-time fraternity Xanax trafficking ring. Instead, he found a homicide, several student deaths, and millions of dollars circulating around the Deep South. He also opened up an elite world hidden to outsiders. Behind the pop culture cliches of “Greek life” lies one of the major breeding grounds of American power: 80 percent of Fortune 500 executives, 85 percent of Supreme Court justices, and all but four presidents since 1825 have been fraternity members.

Story
With its deeply personal and seamless blend of memoir, cultural history, literary criticism, and reportage, The Recovering turns our understanding of the traditional addiction narrative on its head, demonstrating that the story of recovery can be every bit as electrifying as the train wreck itself. Leslie Jamison deftly excavates the stories we tell about addiction - both her own and others' - and examines what we want these stories to do and what happens when they fail us. All the while, she offers a fascinating look at the larger history of the recovery movement and at the complicated bearing that race and class have on our understanding of who is criminal and who is ill.

A must read for anyone who has experienced addiction in their family
This is an amazing, captivating and inspiring true story of perseverance. By the power of the Holy Spirit, through Christ and by the grace of God, it reflects how lives can be transformed and people can become what God always wanted them to be.
Anyone who does not believe that God leaves the 99 and goes after the one who wanders away; or those who do not believe in miracles need to read this book.
