The ghost of Sir Lancelot helps Jessie and her unicorn friend, Gus, stop a dragon from destroying the Great Plains and even time itself. Jessie discovers how to release the power of the magical Karkadan horn to do good, and Gus finds the courage to live up to being the son of the unicorn king.
This story is suitable for children ages four and older. (There are some scary parts, but no explicit violence, and of course, it has a fairy tale ending) Reading level is seven to 10. The story is in an accessible play format. It can be enjoyed as a short bedtime story, or the kids can act it out as a play.
This is a kid favorite. Kids will enoy reading along as they listen to the audiobook. The audiobook matches the print and e-book word for word and is a fun way for kids to learn to read.

I feel a bit stupid that, as a person in the mid-twenties, I struggled to follow the plot line of a book for four year olds. However, this is book 4 in a series, and I haven't read the previous three. It was well written, and very well narrated by the author Laura Hesse, but I wasn't a fan of repeating the book title before starting every chapter.

It is the first Laura Hesse book I listened to and I am happy to say that I liked it. Unicorn, dragon and the ghost of Sir Lancelot, what else could you want more?

The narrator, also the author, reminds me of listening to a teacher or a librarian. She has a pleasant voice, but makes no attempt at acting out the characters, rather saying the name of each character before reading their lines instead. This can be a little distracting, but younger listeners will appreciate being able to keep track of who is who.
