Publisher's summary

Read by Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Kathleen Turner, and Matthew Broderick, here are the stories of the immortals of Olympus - the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece - as freshly described as if they were alive today.

Mighty Zeus, with his fistful of thunderbolts; mischievous little Hermes; grey-eyed Athena, godess of wisdom; Asclepius, the first physician; Orpheus and his beloved Euridice; Helios the sun, crossing the heavens in his fiery chariot.... these and other equally fabulous figures are featured here with their heroic deeds and petty squabbles illuminated in full dimension.

Critic reviews

"For any child fortunate enough to have this generous book...the kings and heroes of ancient legend will remain forever matter-of-fact; the pictures interpret the text literally and are full of detail and witty observation." ( Horn Book)

Great for Homeschooling!

It took my girls a few chapters before they enjoyed the stories but it has become a favorite part of their homeschool day. The stories are funny and listening by audio really helps with learning the pronunciation of the Greek names. I highly recommend listening to this with your children.

Solid performances by all the actors

What brought me to the audio version of this book was the fact that Sidney Poitier is one of the narrators. I am one of the the biggest Poitier fans you’ll ever meet in my generation, since my generation has NO CLUE what a phenomenon Mr. Poitier is. But what I am genuinely SHOCKED about is how good EVERYONE is who narrates it. I was NOT surprised about Kathleen Turner since she’s known for her voice, but let’s just say that I didn’t think I would’ve loved hearing Ferris Bueller narrate Greek tales, but y’know what? The righteous dude did well!!! The physical book itself is a must-have if you’re into Greek mythology at all, but I seriously wouldn’t skip on the audiobook either.

Classic tales with classic narration

My kids love to listen to this (and ask for it over and over)! I love that they are listening to classic stories. There are so many references to Greek mythology throughout much of literature worth reading. I am glad they are being introduced now. And I like listening to Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier!
