About this listen

A fun, flirty teen debut from Wattpad phenom Alex Light about a fake relationship and real love.

It’s been years since 17-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having had a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone.

Brett Wells has it all. As captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in his school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom. When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be the mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not having a meaningful relationship, and she can keep up the ruse that she’s got a boyfriend.

Acting like the perfect couple isn’t easy, though, especially when you barely know the other person. But with Becca still picking up the pieces from when her world was blown apart years ago and Brett just barely holding his together now, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined.

When the line between what is pretend and what is real begins to blur, they're forced to answer the question: Is this fake romance the realest thing in either of their lives?

Cutesy Romance

This cutesy young adult romance was a quick listen while I was at work. The characters were fun and the story was a bit predictable, which is not uncommon for young adult books.

It was a good story.

It was a pretty standard story but it was cute. I like how the story flowed. I read other reviews about the narrating. I liked the narration for Becca but not so much for Brett. Other people were bothered by his women’s voice but I more just wasn’t a fan of how he read the story. I would’ve loved if Becca told the whole thing. But overall, cute story. Pretty predictable but still cute.

Good feel good story

The story was cute! The plot was sweet but can definitely be dug into a little deeper. Brett and Becca start “fake” dating but there’s never any awkwardness or push from each other they are just automatically in love. The story with Brett’s parents is very unfinished. The ending is sweet and happy.

A sweet story

Other than the fact that it’s a little bit of a mushy Gushi sweet story. You have a little bit of drama. I find how she interacted with her father a little far-fetched. I find it kind of sad that the male leads mother thinks love can solve it all but sometimes it can. And the thing that kept me reading the most was listening to the description of the donuts and pastries.
A terrible Male reader that makes me feel like I am listening to someone telling me gibberish. The female reader was a little bit better still sounded slightly robotic. By the time that I got to chapter 4 I was getting annoyed with the voices but I kept listening and hopes that maybe it would get better. It didn’t and it took me some time to get through the book this should’ve taken me a day and it said it took me three days. I just kept saying this is Siri talking just go with that and that’s how I got to listen to the book.

Great teen love story

This book is well written. It talks about true love, love trial, the importance parent relationships and how their examples play important roles in a teens love life. I loved that it talked about forgiveness after divorce and the pain that affairs bring to all involved. The author did a good job at making the plot relatable to today's situations. The story was sweet and captivating. Very good book.

The Upside of Falling

I realized something reading this. I am Becca, and I am fine with that. Books are my escape and I would have it no other way. I loved how this all started out as a fake date. Brett and Becca both had a lot to deal with, which their issues were pretty relatable for teenagers.

Since I have never been on Wattpad I had no idea what to expect, but this book was very sweet and I really enjoyed it. the ending was just prefect.

Definitely different than expected but decent

The story had 3 major storylines and I liked that it was more complex than most YA romance books however I lost interest with the last 2 hours or so as it seemed repetitive. Narrators we’re iffy - I hated the guy trying to do the female voice. Overall it was just fine.

Cute premise, well executed

I liked the fake dating premise of this story as well as the fact the Hero is the one who claimed the relationship first. I thought Brett and Becca grew their relationship at a good pace and I liked that the conflict was mostly from outside the relationship, rather than within it, so they could support each other. There were a few things that I wished had more of a resolution and I really want a jelly bell, but it was overall a very enjoyable story.
