About this listen

A heartfelt summer listen for fans of Sarah Dessen and Jenny Han about holding on and letting go.

Waverly Lyons has been caught in the middle of her parents’ divorce for as long as she can remember. This summer, the battle rages over who she’ll spend her vacation with, and when Waverly’s options are shot down, it’s bye-bye Fairbanks, Alaska, and hello Holden, Florida, to stay with her aunt.

Coming from the tundra of the north, the beach culture isn’t exactly Waverly’s forte. The sun may just be her mortal enemy, and her vibe is decidedly not chill. To top it off? Her ability to swim is nonexistent.

Enter Blake, the (superhot) boy next door. Charming and sweet, he welcomes Waverly into his circle. For the first time in her life, Waverly has friends, a social life, and soon enough, feelings...for Blake. As the two grow closer, Waverly’s fortunes begin to look up. But every summer must come to an end, and letting go is hardest when you’ve finally found where you belong.

A sweet book

Great little teen story about first loves, learning to be confident in our own awkwardness and finding happiness. Characters were all different and relatable. Performance was good as well!

A Great Introduction To Audiobooks

I loved this book so much. The whole story is fast paced, the characters are complex, and the plot is wonderful. This is my first audiobook, and now I’m hooked. Absolutely loved this story, it’s a 5/5 stars for me.

My favorite audiobook 💗

This book made me so happy and I loved it. It was exciting and funny and sad at the same time. I can not explain how sad I was when it was over but am so glad I listened to it! Hoping for a sequel!

Along for the Ride-ish

I listened to this almost immediately after watching Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen on Netflix. I was struck by the similarities between the two including: an awkward and isolated narrator with distant, divorced parents, a trip to the beach and hope for a new identity of sorts, new friend dynamics, etc. —just switch swimming for bike riding and you’re pretty much there. But that may all be superficial, since it’s a book to movie comparison, and I haven’t read Dessen before. Still, I enjoyed listening to Float. It’s a sweet YA romance with a touch of angst. I thought that there were a couple of really wonderful comedic moments that separate/elevate it from similar books. I thought that the narrator did a nice job of conveying Waverly’s insecurities and awkwardness.
