About this listen

One night, while walking at Savannah Beach, a teenager named Tony-Paul had an encounter with three sightseeing vampires.

That meeting evolved into this novel, highlighting episodes experienced by:

Marius, the elder brother. He can’t understand why the woman he loves doesn’t want to renew their affair. What does it matter if 50 years have passed since they last saw each other? Isn’t true love eternal?

Valerius, the younger brother. Running from an arranged marriage into the arms of a woman he could really love. Problem is, she’s human - all right to bite, but not to marry. What’s a lovelorn vampire to do?

Cousin Timon, who thought marrying the author of the world’s most famous vampire series was ironic but fun...until she wrote a novel proving the Undead exist. Now, the leader of New Orleans’ nosferatu has to do something about that tell-all book.

Stop the presses!

Join Tony-Paul de Vissage as he relates these stories of three hapless vampires and how they found love, lost it, found it again, and fought to keep it.

I liked this different vampire story. This book portrayed vampires as ordinary citizens living in New Orleans. The focus is on two brothers and their cousin melding in, making sure to keep their secret. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Narrator Quinn Riley did a great job .

The Vamps and I surprised me, to be honest - the story is a collection of (pseudy?) biographical stories following a family of three exiled vampires - Timon, Val and Marius - who happen to meet Tony-Paul de Vissage and essentially get him to do some positive PR / biographical pieces for them. Each story in this book is a slice of everyone's lives; the cover art almost implies that it may be a horror title, but it really isn't. This is about finding and keeping love, the challenge of belonging to a family and society as old as the Vampires and mingling with humans without giving away too much.
This is right up my alley and I heavily enjoyed it. My favorites were probably the ones focusing on Val's and Timon's relationship respectively; but "Sometimes, Love Returns" was especially sweet.

The book is well written and very enjoyable to listen to; the characters are fun and have their very distinct personality (my favorite of them all probably being Laura Atwood).

Quinn Riley did a great job narrating; only at the very beginning it took me a minute to realize that Val was, in fact, a male character, I completely forgot about that confusion later on. She brings the relationship, emotions, sorrows, worries, pride moments and moments of tender love to life very enjoyably.
I highly recommend this listen :)

I like how the author wrote himself into the story like it really happened. It takes the journey of three male vampires and how they lived, or existed.
