A Warhammer 40,000 novel.

In a brief respite between wars, Gaunt's Ghosts find themselves facing a hidden killer on a newly liberated world.

Listen to it because....

Witness a never-before-seen tale from the confidential Ghost dossier, following one of the earliest deployments for the Tanith First and Only.

The story:

In the ruined border town of Vincula, the newly formed Tanith First and Only and their commander, Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, are assigned to enforce a permanent peace. However, this thankless police action will prove as dangerous as any frontline—something is stalking the Ghosts through the streets, and soon the Tanith First will learn dark secrets about themselves that will echo through their history.

Written by Dan Abnett. Running time 6 hours 8 minutes. Narrated by Toby Longworth.

Definitely a Gaunt’s Ghosts book. Goes back to the early days of the Regiment where they end up dealing with some crazy feth. I won’t go too deep into it, but it feels like there are one or two points where it seems inconsistent with the older books, but otherwise it’s action-packed. Also, there’s a subplot to the story that deals with explaining the nature of the Ghosts’ tattoos and how Tanith’s culture is interconnected with other worlds in the Sabbat Worlds that was interesting as well. If they’re setting up for a second Ghost Dossier book to follow up on this, I’m in.

More of this pls!

Good story

It was only 6 hrs long, but I think that helped my enjoyment of it. The setting is kinda neat. The Ghosts have to police an area with insurgents and it’s obvious Dan Abnett took cues from the real life conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The story gave some background on a few endearing characters from the novel series. One revelation was interesting and I cant wait to learn more.
I listened to the first 4 Gaunt’s Ghosts and gave up on the series. The books were well written, but it became a slog after a while. This shorter story was more enjoyable.

Ghosts are back for this enjoyable story

as always, the narrators for this series are unimpeachable. book after book the voices are the same, very well done.
-
in the Gaunts Ghost series, you go from one fethed up mess to another; and that's just those running the wars! very entertaining, very easy to get emotionally invested in the stories and the characters.
-
but what happens in between? this dossier is a nice addition, filling in the blanks of what happens after the world is liberated. so it helps if you've read a few of the first books in the series before this.
-
well worth a credit and I can't wait for more!

awesome story filling in some blanks

Lot of new information that doesn’t come up in the other books in the series and sense this book is supposed to be about there second deployment the new information won’t really add anything to the books that tell of there future endeavors.

Good but should have came out 20 years ago

This was a real amazing listen, Toby Longworth delivering a KILLER performance, the story was wonderful and refreshing and really gave a wonderful backdrop to the early days of the ghosts. Gaunt's Ghosts is one of those Warhammer series you should listen/read, this is no exception.

Brilliant, a must listen if you love Gaunt!

Was overall a good listen, it did feel a little rushed but was still entertaining. Always nice to listen too Toby Longworth as Guant and the ghosts.

Really didn't know what to expect going into this; what I got was a beautiful return to the old days, but with the painful tinge of future loss haunting the narrative for those familiar with the series.

A shorter, more condensed tale than the usual Ghosts narrative, Abnett dedicates much of the narrative to exploring the inner conflicts of foundational members of the Tanith, before the fire of combat had alloyed them as a proper regiment.

Gaunt is still seeking a competent adjuctant, Rawne still desperately wants to kill Gaunt, and Milo feels othered by his status as a civilian in limbo.

Breathtaking performance by Toby Longworth, as always. Hearing the familiar voices of Ghosts long passed always brings a tinge of pain to my heart, a testement to Longworth's ability to give each character their own unique voice and feel.

After finishing this, I think it's time for a series re-listen. Highly recommend to old and new fans alike.

Nostalgic and bittersweet
