About this listen

2096.

Riley Taylor is still alive. Still fighting. Still ensnared in the Service’s trap.

She’s served in battle. She’s killed. She’s watched as her friends have fallen away, either to death or to the brainwashing that forces the government’s agenda into young, hungry minds.

But Riley is one of the few citizens who has seen the inside of the Stilts, the flooded buildings that surround Manhattan. Now that she knows what life is really like on the other side of the wall, she must decide which path to take. She can continue her career as a soldier in the Service, or she can turn spy against the government and begin working with the Volunteers.

Both situations are dangerous. Both could be deadly. And as the clock ticks down to the time when she will have to choose, it’s more than just her own life on the line.

Exciting story!

I read this years ago and now listening to the whole series. Well narrated and good story about a young woman living in a dystopian society.

Interesting story but reader too breathy

I could listen to the last installment, but I can’t take another minute of the breathy reader though the story is interesting.

Loved it! I got a little lost as to where the story was going and who was on what side but its all part of the mystery of it and it was amazing!

Predictable

It was good, Riley is a good character. The book was a little bit slow, predictable, and lacking details. Giving the character more emotions with her interactions with others is really needed.
It passed the time.

loving this series

I've read this twice a few years ago. I felt like listening, and I'm so glad the narrator is good! She's excellent, actually!

Great second installment

I really enjoyed this second book. The plot moved along, characters grew, and the story was engaging.

Great sequel

Wow! Sometimes the second book in a series is where I lose interest because the story line just seems to drag on, but this sequel was honestly so great! I never felt like the story lacked or the story lulled. The characters continued to grow and develop which was fun to see and I love how relatable they are despite the fact that the story is set in a very different society. Riley Taylor is definitely my favorite character because of her strength and tenacity. The writing is beautiful and the story is so compelling and thought provoking. Can’t wait for book three!

Strength of main character

This book would make a fantastic movie. The character development is fantastic and the story line would be a strong diverse cinematic production.

She's no genius

I've made it to book 2 and not impressed. I love the plot and I feel like it could be great, but the main character is an idiot. I'm not sure if it's just that she's under developed (as most of the characters are) or if it's an attempt to stretch the word count, but there's huge holes that leave the story disconnected and frustrating to follow. Either way I'm invested in the outcome now and will continue to book 3 with the hope that things become more clear and our heroine finally gets a clue. Pray my strength 🙄😤
