About this listen

In a world monitored by mind-manipulating implants, one young woman will risk everything for liberty.

Brooklyn, 2095. Seventeen-year-old Riley Taylor longs to escape the crushing poverty of the slums. Stuck with her best friend in a totalitarian police state, their only hope of freedom is joining the military. But when Riley gets ripped away from him in their first brutal combat, she’s shocked to discover why so many recruits come home in coffins.

Ultimately reunited on the front lines in the war for dwindling natural resources, she’s devastated to learn they wiped his memory. As they fight side by side, she vows to survive long enough to restore his recollection of their lost friendship. But with her state-issued chip recording her every move, digging into the corrupt regime could prove deadlier than the battlefield....

Can Riley save her best friend before the government steals her last shot at a new future?

flawed hero story

this is a story with a flawed hero and it's not my cup of tea. I stroke to finish it and drop stopping halfway through.

It's worth the listen.

Some of the story points didn't line up. Sometimes she would say something lasted for several day and then later in the book she stated it was only 72 hours and then she would say the same instance was 1 night. Good story despite the lack of continuity.

The Next Katniss Everdeen

Riley Taylor is one bad b***!!! I was drawn into every word by this wonderful writer and performer who transported me into this dystopian nightmare. I just bought the 4th book and what a wild ride I’ve been on! The first book was free and im so incredibly grateful that I was introduced to this series. I can’t wait to see where else this goes and how much more growth and development Taylor is put through. I’d give this book 10 stars if I could!

Wonderful creative dystopian

Wow!! Ok, I loved this book! First off, with so many dystopian books out there it can be hard to find something super unique, but this book was so different and creative, while still incorporating so many of the beautiful aspects I love in dystopian books regarding governments, waring nations, and resources. The plot was totally plausible and forces the listener to really think about todays world and choices that could or should be made. The characters were completely believable and relatable. I loved Riley and her personality and growth. The writing was really spectacular and I commend the author for her ability to show not tell, and lead the reader through the story so effortlessly. The story had such an easy flow while being packed with action and excitement. I can’t wait to get my hands on book two!
