Lorelei Fischer desperately needed somewhere to spend the night, and, as if by magic, Moonlit Shores Manor appeared.
But there’s a cost for everything, magic included.
More than willing to escape her old life and fill the open position at the bizarre bed and breakfast, Lorelei quickly learns of the dangers waiting for her. She’s only human, after all, and casting spells, shifting into wild animals, and caring for mythical creatures aren’t exactly in the wheelhouse of a former barista and art school failure. At the manor, faeries might pull tricks on you while washing linens, werewolves might try to rough up your bellboy, and a shadowy presence in the woods might be your undoing if you ask too many questions.
With the help of her supernatural, live-in coworkers, Moonlit Shores Manor could be Lorelei’s sanctuary from her past mistakes. Though as the truth of the manor’s history unravels, it could just as likely become another place Lorelei must flee to save not just her reputation but her life.

The story is a slower build than I'm used to with a gradual introduction to the characters, world, and magic but I think it was done decently but those of us readers who know all the different types of paranormals may not be as surprised about the different paranormal creatures. Even once I finished the book, I still was left with questions about the world and magic but it does make me interested in reading the next book.
I was slightly frustrated when the characters didn't give the MC any support or explain anything of the new world to her. Especially since they knew she didn't know anything. I felt the character kind of meandered through and didn't quite have a direction for the story until the end. It was mainly the character learning and exploring the new world, which is fine, but I think I like having more of a goal or point to the story and the stakes could be higher so readers could be more invested. I didn't really know who or what was the obstacle/antagonist until the end.
If you're looking for a steamy paranormal romance, you don't get that in this book. Other than some lusty thoughts, you don't get any romance in the story yet so you may want to lower your expectations to a slow burn romance which I'm hoping to see in the next book.
Still, my interest is piqued and I do like where the author is going with the story. I like that there are variety of paranormal races in the manor and everyone has a role. I'm curious enough to read the next book to see where we go with Lorelei. Recommended if you like slower exploratory paranormal books with vibes similar to the Innkeeper Chronicles series by Ilona Andrews but it's definitely interpreted differently but still an enjoyable read.
3.2 out of 5 rating for me!

A. K. Caggiano has set the stage for what is sure to be an interesting and exciting series. I’m looking forward unraveling the secrets and finding out more about all of the characters we were introduced to.
Ellen Quay brought the story and characters to life. I was entertained by her performance, and I look forward to listening to more of her narrations.
