A well loved classic

Lazy summer days before entering the adult world of responsibility. A picnic joined by friends and not over run by ants. The Wind in the Willows brought back some of the best of childhood without bringing all that angst and hassle laying under the surface for most of us.

Relax and enjoy Mole, Rat, and even Mr Toad as they explore life, the English countryside and stretch the boundaries of their world. This children's classic is for more than children. And running about 6 hours, it is one of the best bargains for your money you can find (just buy it and save your credits for a book that is expensive).

Narrator makes this wonderful classic a true favorite

My mother read this classic to me 50 years ago, & I’ve read it to my child. The narrator (Curtis Sisco) really pulled this off- he does all the voices spectacular ( I could now never listen to another variation), totally distinct from one another. Even the songs were great. Toad is my favorite but the Washerwoman was hilarious w/ her cackling. This is one of my favorite Audible stories & listen before bed but not just to put u asleep! Well Done! -MM

A Children’s Book for Adults

This is a beautifully written story for children but more so for adults. The animals have distinct personalities and human traits found in many people. The animals adventures are fun loving and at times surprising. I found it quite entertaining and a nice change from my normal choice of books.

American accent and pronounciation

Please narrators, use correct pronunciation. Quay is not pronounced "Qway", correct way to say this word is "key". I prefer to hear UK accents particularly for British writers, it took a while to tune in to the American accent. Should have listened to a sample before purchasing. Lovely story and good characterisation by Curtis Sisco

Can’t get over mispronunciation

My kids and I loved listening to this book. It’s one of my favorite stories and overall well-performed here.

I cannot get over how the reader pronounces the world “victuals”, though. I have never heard it pronounced anything other than like “vittles”. The reader here says it like “vick-tu-als”. Oh well, ha ha :)

Too complex language for children

I boss is thinking it will be good as a bedtime story for my grandchildren ages eight going on nine and 10 going on 11. The complex without words went over their heads even though they are very good students. This is an adult addition which I did not realize.

disappointed

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I was disappointed by this classic. While imaginative, and lots of good imagery, the overall message is mixed up.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Not had Toad get away with his crimes.

What about Curtis Sisco’s performance did you like?

Easy to understand,

A wonderful story from time past.

Having read, this book many, many years ago as a lad, when I came across it one day in its audible format. I wanted to listen to it this time, thus my purchase and this revie. Disneyland used to have a ride named Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, which was my wife's favorite ride, even as an adult. I had urged her for years to read the book to understand what the ride all was about. She finally read it, discovered the delight of the tale, and our library has a copy or two to loan out to our grandkids, when they are old enough.

Whatever you do, get this entertaining story; be it for your kids to listen to on a long dive, or while sick and bored, or for your own listening enjoyment. No matter the reason, get it (in audible, Kindle, hardcover or soft cover form), and enter the lives of everyday animals in the world of make believe!
