About this listen

1943: Kurt Muller and a young colleague parachute into southern Germany to rescue a British-Canadian agent. The Allies have won the battle of the Atlantic, and German forces are retreating on all major fronts. The war in Europe is effectively over, but the Nazis will never accept defeat. An Abwehr deserter and member of the German resistance - the Black Orchestra - with a price on his head, Kurt quickly finds himself in a deadly race to prevent the Nazis from developing the first atomic bomb and changing the outcome of the Second World War.

Fun sequel to The Black Orchestra

This was a fun sequel to The Black Orchestra! Lots of high adventure and tense twists and turns. It was a faster pace with less nuances than the first but a first rate spy romp to the last! Buy it!!

A letdown from the 1st book

I gave Book 1 5*'s, based on the intriguing idea of the onion-skin nature of Nazi polity, akin to a LeCarre Or Furst novel. Book 2 was somewhat disappointing in that it came across as more of a cross between later James Bond flicks & The Perils of Pauline. I'm not sure I'll continue the series, but I'll read the reviews and make a decision. Our hero can't have many lives left, as he seemingly has exhausted eight of them.

A Remarkable German on Our Side

This is second book of the Black Orchestra series and every bit the equal of its predecessor. Kurt Mueller turns himself in to British authorities, risking his life doing so. Having escaped Germany with false papers, he would be tried as a spy or incarcerated for the remainder of the war. But knowing he was uniquely qualified to damage the Nazis he meant to persuade the British to use him as a spy.

The British warily agree to send him on a rescue mission, but early on its clear someone there wants him to fail. It's a great game of cat and mouse. He is aided again by division within the Germans which he understands more than any other.

The writing is wonderful and the narration matches it.

Just Exceptional!

This book continues the story started in The Black Orchestra. I was thrilled the author decided to use the same narrator, who has become one of my new favorites. He's able to add to the story but not get in the way.
The plot keeps moving right along, all the way to the very end. And the author successfully picqued readers' interest in the last book of the trilogy, - can't wait to get started on that one!
Do yourself a favor - begin your listening experience when you've got the entire day because it's really a compelling mystery.

Fun ww2thriller

Narration: granger's slightly gravelly voice an excellent match for this story.

Content: story strains credulity but still fun. Would make for light, entertaining summer action film.

Conclusion: recommended

Overall a good WW2 spy story.

I liked the book but I thought the story got a little bit too outlandish at the end . Dare I say James Bondish. But overall it was worth the read.
