This program features multicast narration and an author's note read by the author.

A wealthy couple ends up murdered in the nicest part of town in this compulsively listenable thriller from M. T. Edvardsson.

Bill Olsson, recently widowed, is desperate to provide for his daughter, Sally. Struggling to pay rent, he welcomes a lodger into their home: Karla, a law student and aspiring judge, who works as a housekeeper to make ends meet. Her clients are the Rytters, an incredibly wealthy couple who hide behind closed doors. The wife is ill and hasn’t left the house in months. The husband is controlling and obsessive. Is he just a worried husband, concerned for his wife’s health? Or is there something more sinister at play?

As Bill’s situation becomes more dire, Karla is forced to make a difficult choice. And when the Rytters wind up dead, and Karla is pulled in for questioning, she’s made to defend some parts of her past she’d rather not revisit.

Every person in The Woman Inside is hiding something, but could any of them really have been driven to kill?

Critic reviews

“With The Woman Inside, M. T. Edvardsson has written a super well-composed chamber drama, where the darkness dwells, the desperation grows between the characters and the walls are closing in until you´re caught in the trap.”
—Lars Kepler, #1 internationally bestselling author of The Sandman

"Alienation, self-preservation, and hope propel the story toward calamity with unrelenting suspense; highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers." —Booklist

Excellent story and narration!

This was just as entertaining and thrilling as A Nearly Normal Family. I found the commentary on justice on family tragedy, grief, and guilt to be thought provoking. Somehow there are characters that made me chuckle, some that angered me and some that I really related to. A great book!

Slowly drew me in

At first, the narrative seemed disjointed, and, in general, I’m not fond of multiple voice actors. I struggled to maintain interest. However, the story became compelling. This is a well crafted, and ultimately, surprising novel. I intend to read the author’s first novel. Not to be missed by fans of Scandinavian noir. Five stars all around.

The Woman Inside by M.T. Edvardsson is not for me. My biggest gripe is that so much is left unresolved. I kept hoping we'd have a flashback or something to Miranda to explain her situation, and at least one for Regina to see what her life was like firsthand. The only person I remotely liked was Karla. I hate how irresponsible Bill is at 33 and Jennica came off as entitled for no reason other than existing. The ending was not as shocking as we're led to believe. I want my money back (!) and will not read another book by M. T. Edvardsson.

Josh Dylan as Bill, Nathalie Buscombe as Jennica, and Sofia Engstrand as Karla are okay to listen to. They all spoke rather slow, so I sped them up to 1.15 and still could have gone higher.
