About this listen

To lead is not to be "the boss", the "head honcho", or "the brass". To lead is to serve.

Although serving may imply weakness to some, conjuring up a picture of the CEO waiting on the workforce hand and foot, servant leadership is actually a robust, revolutionary idea that can have significant impact on an organization's performance.

Jim Hunter champions this hard/soft approach to leadership, which turns bosses and managers into coaches and mentors. By "hard", Hunter means that servant leaders can be hard-nosed, even autocratic, when it comes to the basics of running the business. But once that direction is provided, servant leaders turn the organizational structure upside down. They focus on giving employees everything they need to win, be it resources, time, guidance, or inspiration. Servant leaders know that providing for people and engaging hearts and minds foster a workforce that understands the benefits of striving for the greater good.

While many believe that servant leadership is a wonderful, inspiring idea, what's been missing is the how-to, the specifics of implementation. Jim Hunter reveals how to do the right thing for the people you lead.

Love does conquer all; to do what is right in the eyes of GOD!

This book strengthened what I already believe the way a leader should behave.
I will recommend it to family and friends.

Contributes energy clearity and depth

Unusually Poignant (moving inspirational and touching but also slightly painful). I was impacted his evocative writing style. This was unexpected by me in a book about leadership. He challenges some of the approaches used by high output leaders. Then Hunter inspires readers with the desire to perform at even higher levels using skill sets and approaches that encourage personal, team, and corporate health. He writes with a clarity that can't be avoided. A standout book on leadership, contains both breadth and width. Even on concepts familiar to most leaders Hunter takes you to new places. this book goes into our "Leadership for Life" training course. Over used and I'm asking for forgiveness in advance but... this is a must read for seasoned veterans and aspiring up and comers.

The author does a great job in convincing the reader that servant leadership is the key building a collaborative culture in your organization. He’s a talented writer and the voice actor was phenomenal.

Not bad but not great

General book on servant leadership. The author brings a wealth of experience in corporate America and does a good job of translating that experience to the topic of servant leadership.

Very practical, use-ful and life-changing

Jim shares that leadership is character and shares many achievable standards of leadership. almost all of his points beyond chapter 6 are worth writing down and living up to. before chapter 6 the book is supposed to be the same as the first book called The servant.

Highly recommend!

This book was required reading, but it was a delightful task! I practice some of the habits in the book already, and the section on assertiveness helped me resolve an issue with a co-worker last week. The narrator was good and seemed to speak directly to the audience. A hard copy is on order, I will review and share.
