About this listen

Stella's mama never should've put Stella on the church prayer list. With Stella's 27th birthday coming up fast, Nancy desperately wants to see her daughter married and giving her grandbabies. Petitioning heaven seems like a surefire way to get it done. But in Cadillac, Texas, where the gossip's hotter than the city's famous jalapeño peppers, it isn't long before all hell breaks loose.

Heather, the bossy leader of the church's Prayer Angels, thinks a summer ball will get Stella and the town's other single gals paired off. But nobody can tell redheaded spitfire Stella what to do—not her mama, not Heather, and not even the sexy beau Stella's been seeing in secret. Together, Stella, her best friends Charlotte and Piper, and the loyal customers of the Yellow Rose Beauty Shop hatch a good old-fashioned scheme to sabotage the ball. But will it wreck Stella's relationship with her mama forever? And what will the church folk think when Stella reveals the identity of her mystery man?

The story is good but it could have been told better and I did not care for the narrator. Every other word is damn, hell or shit which was completely unnecessary. In addition, all the cursing did not fit with the setting of a small, southern town in Texas. The story centers around the ladies of the town church. I feel like the book was written by a novice author.

Disappointing, could have been much better

I had high hopes for this audio book. It was predictable without any surprises. The reader was excellent and saved it for me, otherwise, I may not have finished it.

Okay, but I was expecting it to be better

I happened on this book because I love yellow roses! Early on in the book I recognized places mentioned around Cadillac Tx, the fictional setting. Grayson County, Sherman, Tom Bean etc are all too familiar. I’m guessing the author is from this area of northeast Texas. I’m going to check her out. Loved the storyline and overall enjoyed the book!

The characters, the story, the plot, are hilarious. I hope there will be a sequel if there isn't one already.

I love this book!!!

I was a bit disappointed with this book, comparing it to the last two by this author that I have listen to. I just loved Wedding Pearls, and The Ladies Room! in this book, her story centers around a church and a preacher and I think she went way, way out of her way, to make sure no one could think this was a religious book! The gratuitous mild cursing that saturates the book is so unnecessary. I'm still going to read some more by this author, and hope she didn't continue this style. I'll probably pick books that came before this one, not after it.

okay, but not her best

I kept passing the book up. Definitely my least favorite. She will always be my favorite author.

Not my favorite book written by Carolyn Brown.

This was a sweet and fun book. I had several times of snickering or laughing out loud. The narrator did a great job of separating the voices.

Made me 😃
