About this listen

A thousand years ago, an empire died. No one knew why. Not until now.

Seven years ago, Caitlyn “Cat” Aguirre–the first of the magicless Zeros–was kidnapped and taken to the ruins of the Eternal City. There, she discovered the dread secret behind the collapse of the Thousand-Year Empire, a secret she knew she didn’t dare share with the world.

But now, with strange sightings and energies emitting from the ruined city, and a darkening political situation back home, Cat has no choice but to return to the dead city.

And what she finds there will change everything ...

Cat is back!!!

I'm so very happy that Cat has taken the foreground in this book. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the other people's stories but I LOVE the stories from Cat's POV. I can't wait to hear what happens next in her story.

4.2 because ...

While this story is somewhat juvenile for a 43 year old there are alot of stuff that pull me in on this story. The way that magic is imagined and expounded are amazing. But on the other hand I sometimes feel like the author is a preteen. If I hear another character exclaim "It's not fair!" I may just stab my eyes out! It's kind of ridiculous how annoying and whining the main character, no matter what book of the series. It kinda gets old...

Magic is science

Nuttall is one of my favorite authors. I love the universe he has created where magic is ruled by clear scientific rules combined with a talent.

I can’t get enough.

Hits all the right notes & one of the series stars

Superbly plotted, rich character development, fascinating setting...completely engrossing tenth installment in the superb Zero Enigma series. Christopher G. Nuttall really hit all the notes right, with a wonderfully balanced book. It was fantastic the point of view returned to Cat, our original point of view. But all the other characters, many from the past and a few new ones, were used to perfection. It was quite fascinating to see what the author "did" to Rebecca, Adam, Master Niven, and so many more. I just loved this perfect episode in the series. Well-done! Highly recommended reading. This series is quite excellent for an audio recording. Some books just are better than others as books you listen to...this one gets flying colours (this installment and the overall series). Saskia Maarleveid reads "The Zero Secret" quite perfectly. I read the Kindle version first, and enjoyed the audio version even more.

disappointing

this series has been going downhill for awhile, but has reached the "author is a teenage gamer" level. i dont know who the ghostwriter is for this book, but .... even for a fantasy lover its hard to suspend disbelief when a girl stumbles on a functional flying city that is 1,000 years old and she knows how to fly it without any instruction and no previous experience with any of the technology.
