About this listen

Veterinary intern Emily can't believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of in a Los Angeles clinic like she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship. Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn't just a laid-back doctor but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans.

Lighthearted.

This is book 5 in the ANIMAL MAGNETISM series of standalone novels connected to an Idaho veterinary practice. This is my first ever novel by this author and I think this a series you can read in any order and you won’t be lost.

I loved the protagonists who were wholly likeable and had a great chemistry and banter I enjoyed. Their siblings were fun too and provided lighthearted entertainment as well as serious moments. The only downside for me was that both main characters were stubborn and took too long to wake up to themselves for my liking. The wait was a little agony.

The community of secondary characters, some of whom appear as primary characters in other novels of the series, are easy to keep track of because the writer is skilled at supplying the reader information without force-feeding. So this novel was a very enjoyable experience from the perspective of getting to know and love a whole community.

Karen White did a great job as the sole narrator performing all the characters plus animal sounds. I was impressed by her performance.

I enjoyed this story a lot. I am checking out another book in this series as soon as possible.

Sometimes You Just Don't Click with a Character

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I struggle with the story. I love Jill Shalvis's books, but Emily in the story made me want to beat her upside her head majority of the story. She was a hard character like, because she put an expiration date on the fun between her and Wyatt. I did adore Wyatt. So, it was a toss up on was it worth my time. However, it did give a glimpse on what is to come with Wyatt sisters so that's a positive.

If you’ve listened to books by Jill Shalvis before, how does this one compare?

Same quality like the other stories, but I just couldn't click with Emily. Other than that you get the same feel when you step into the story. You feel like you are there.

Which character – as performed by Karen White – was your favorite?

Darcy (Wyatt's sister) was my favorite voice in the story, and I can't wait for her story.

Any additional comments?

Overall, not a bad listen. Not my favorite, but still okay. Will I stop listening to Jill's book, no. They are fun. Then Came You had positive moments, but Emily rubbed me the wrong way.

A- overall rating...

My Review:
Overall.... 4.25
Performance... 4.75
Story.... 4.0

I love this series for the combination of Jill Shalvis' amazing contemporary romance set in a animal oriented setting. It just makes for incredible reading. I don't usually listen to her books on audio, but my reading time has been taken lately with the books I have to review so I've gotten where I add the books I'm dying to read onto my audio pile. And her writing was just as good in audio...thanks to the incredible narration of Karen White. Wow...she's an awesome narrator. This book has a HUGE cast of characters and not once did any of them sound even similar. Her voice repertoire must be massive. Truly, she was excellent and I will search out more narrated books by her in the future.

But back to the story. Sweet, fun, so incredibly sexy...yep, this was definitely a Jill Shalvis novel. She just does not make a mis-step. I loved both Emily and Wyatt and their out-spoken, don't-mind-their-own-business siblings who simply don't want to see either of them hurt again. Because with the set-up with these two, someone...probably two someone's...going to get hurt. Emily is only in Sunshine for a year internship. She's an LA girl. Never planned to leave and she sure didn't want to go to Idaho. But that was her only choice. So when she arrives, she's already counting down her 365 day sentence.

But what she doesn't count on in Idaho is Wyatt, her one night stand...really freaking hot, knocked her socks off...one night stand who she thought she'd never see again. Oh, and yeah...now he's her supervisor since she has to shadow him in the vet clinic everyday. And Wyatt...he's oh-so-yummy and alpha and sexy and did I mention yummy? Yeah, Jill Shalvis knows how to write her heroes. So sexy!!

It's a great book, an easy, entertaining read, and there's even a bit of suspense and danger toward the end...LOVE that.

The book is by Jill Shalvis...so honestly...enough said. Read her. She writes consistently good contemporary romance, heroes that will melt your heart, and heroines that are so easily relatable that you can't help but feel empathy for them. Her books are phenomenal...and this one was, too.

The best of Jill Shalvis

Would you listen to Then Came You again? Why?

I have listened twice. I will surely listen to it again. Its that good.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to this one twice already. Honestly, laughing out loud right into it. Gasping in surprise and giggles. Love the sisters relationship. The friends at the animal center. The whole community is all so great. Fabulous characters. And the animals. Always a part of everything. There are tears. But this is a wonderful story. You want to get thru it in one sitting because you just don't want it to stop! LOL

simple story line; too much swearing

happy ending. Sh#% was used so often that it seemed careless. perhaps I'm just from a different generation.
