About this listen

“Before there was light, there was a vast emptiness.
That is Mother Cold,
and we will all return to her."

"As Confederate soldier Martin Tomball faces death, freezing overnight on a battlefield, Mother Cold comes to make a deal—a deal that will curse his family for generations to come.

Now, in the winter of 2021, Texas is hit with a state-wide ice storm, leaving millions of households without power. Siblings Jasper and Autumn Tomball are going to have to find a plan to stay warm until the ice thaws—or until Mother Cold comes to collect her bargain.”

This House Will Never Be Warm is a horrific new novella from the author that brought you Hunting Snipe: and Other Notes on the East Texas Cattle Mutilations

Frozen Faustian Deal with the Devil

Review: "This House Will Never Be Warm" by Paul Avery Tindol.
This is a short, enjoyable frozen horror tale with an inventive villain. It's the tale of a family's generational curse, brought upon them by the selfishness of an individual during the American Civil War in a sort of Faustian "make a deal with the devil" kind of moment. But this time, the hell that gets experienced is very cold. It culminates in modern times. I feel like there could be more room to explore other generations and flesh this out into a longer tale, but it works at its current 127 pages. I listened to the audiobook version.

Haunting

The narrator did a great job with this one. The story is short and to the point without much extra and I like that. Not overly “scary” in any sense, but has a haunting family curse that lasts generations.

Great story

Wow. This will get you hooked from the first chapter. The narrator did a great job and the story is creepy! I didn’t want to leave my car and go into work when I was near the end! I definitely recommend!

Hooks you right from the start

Both the story and narration are absolutely fantastic. You can feel the cold in your bones. The main character at the beginning of the story experiences something similar to a recurring dream I had as a kid, so I was 100% emotionally invested from the jump!

Creepy, Chilly Novella

I really enjoyed this short Novella!
It definitely made me want to build up a nice toasty fire...

I was excited to dig into Mr. Tindol's new story after really enjoying his novel, "Hunting Snipe" and it did not disappoint.

THWNbW was creepy, fast paced and just a solid horror tale. It is certainly worth a listen.

Creepy and chilling novella

a great horror novella that pulls from established history and myth to make something new. I'm going to keep an eye on Paul Avery Tindol in the future to see what else he has in his head! Also I can't not mention Nate Dufort's narration, I've been listening to him on Creepy for years and he always brings the story to true unsettling life! highly recommend
